Ian Billett says...

Richard Hill is a true great and he should be knighted for services to all sports fans. As long as i can remember i have never seen him give less than 110% from club to international rugby nobody could ever fault any of his performances unlike other "heroes" from any other sport. good luck Richard

Richard Hill is a Legend, there is no doubt about it - his contribution to rugby over the years has been phenomenal. I am not even a Saracens supporter but will avidly watch any game Hill is featured in - he brings so much to the game and is mesmerising to watch, to see what he is doing - Haskell,Rees, and other likes should be paying close attention to Hill's skills - the way he reads the game is spectacular. I like to wish him all the best - and indeed agree that maybe his being drafted into coaching would be great. Either that or getting a Best of DVD to sit the new youngsters down in front of! He shall be missed!

We are season ticket holders of Saracens. He is always the ultimate sportsman, please don't let him leave union altogether. I hope both Saracens and England are able to use his expertise. England struggle when he doesn't play, we need him to pass on his skill. Rugby will be the poorer for his retirement. Lets give him the best send off yet at MK Dons stadium on Saturday.

Will Burnham says...

At his peak Richard Hill would have been one of the first names selected if you were picking a world XV. His talent has been recognised and respected by every true rugby fan in every rugby country but he has always remained the same modest and decent guy. England have been blessed over the years with some great loose forwards but I truly think Hill has been the best of them all. I know that all England supporters wish Richard the very best for the future and offer their thanks for his immense contribution to our national team. Let's hope he can pass on his skills and experience to the next generation of forwards.

I am a Welshman, also played as a flanker, and I think this guy has been incredible for club, country and the Lions. He is as good a player I have ever seen, I have seen from the mid seventies through to present day. I believe he was the best player England have produced over that timescale, better than Dallaglio, Johnson, Wilkinson, Winterbottom, even Leonard, any other back row player ..... they can all claim, he always will be amongst the world best.

Alex Parker says...

I am a welshman used to saying less than great things about certain English players but with Richard Hill it is impossible. As a player was one of the best back row players of the last 15 years. For so long he was an 'unsung' hero but to all who know about rugby it was obvious that he was a class act. Having read his book you realise how class a person and player he was. Cominb back to play any rugby let alone the high quality he produced after his injuries is testament to his never say die attitude. The best thing I can say is I wish he was Welsh!! All the best Richard.

Ashley Howkins says...

Truely Englands most unmentioned hero on and off the field. I saw him play in the semi-final of the Heiniken Cup this year and he was playing like a fierce young tiger. He is a tackeling machine and his work rate is second to none. His style on playing is a dyeing breed amonst modern flankers. If any team could produce a flanker like him again, they will be a lucky club. Johnny Wilkinson summed up how important Hill was as a defender and ball-winner in his autobiography when he couldn't leave Hill out of his all time XV. It was such a shame to not see him put on an England shirt in such a long time. Although, Hill should be an important member of the England coaching set-up soon.

Oliver Van dongen says...

I think the ultimate homage to Hills greatness was the 2001 lions tour. The Lions had dominated the first test, and were in charge of the second until he was singled out by nathan gray. The lions fell apart without him. Truly THE greatest player England has ever produced, and he made others around him look superb as well.

Michael Jennings says...

If one man sums up the "rough and tough" attitude of the rugby players, it is Richard Hill. The man with a skull twice as thick as any other has been a sheer delight as a flanker, even with two injuries that would have made many retire years ago. An absolute legend, with complete professionalism, and loyalty to both club and country. He will be missed.

Keith Pascoe says...

Few players live up to the word Legend, this man certainly does, in my opinion the greatest 6 to ever play the game. He has been my number 1 player ever since the 97 Lions tour when he kept Neil Back out of the side which lets face it is an immense achievement in itself, no weaknesses and as hard as they come I just hope he gets the send off he truly deserves. thanks Richard watching you put your body on the line over the years has been a true pleasure.

Harry Cook says...

The guy is an absolute legend... and his absence from the England team has been more crucial than any player. His ability to do the 'dirty work' at the breakdown is second to none. One of the true greats and a top guy as well. Hope Martin Johnson can utilise his skills in the England set-up
