Confident: Kun Aguero on Revista

Atletico Madrid starlet Sergio 'Kun' Aguero told Revista De La Liga that his side does have what it takes to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Despite a disappointing 3-1 home defeat to Real Betis in which Aguero netted a consolation goal, Atletico remain in the fourth and final qualification spot, a point ahead of Racing Santander.

And the 19-year-old Argentine, who has contributed 16 goals this term, believes it is a new-found consistency that has put Atletico on course to compete with the best in Europe.

"At the moment we are a lot more consistent than last year when we would win a game then lose one," Aguero told Revista.

"When you put a run of good results together it lifts the team. We are on the right track. Thankfully we have had a good season but there are still things that we need to achieve. We have some important games to play and I hope that we can finish the season in the best way.

"Since the season began, our goal has been to be in the Champions League. The team is focused on that objective and we are going to make a concerted effort to achieve it. Our objective is to finish the season in the top four and to finish playing well."

Aguero, who signed from Argentine side Independiente for £23 million in 2006, admits he initially found it tough adapting to life in Spain but revealed he was relishing playing alongside Diego Forlan.

"I arrived here having just turned 18 and I had never really been out of Buenos Aires. It was a huge change. Last year was ok but this year has been much better.

"I hope that I can hep the team win games and fight to achieve this season's targets. Diego is a great striker. We have a good understanding and playing with a striker of such quality gives you great confidence."

The 2007 FIFA Young Player of the Year has already attracted comparisons with Brazil legend Romario and his compatriot, Maradona - the man whose record Aguero stole in 2003 when he became the youngest player to debut in the Argentine First Division, aged just 15 and 35 days - but insists he wants to win his own plaudits.

"Romario is Romario. Maradona is Maradona and Forlan is Forlan," he added.

"I would like people to think, 'Aguero is a good player' and not make comparisons. I always do my best and hope that people will recognise me for my own individual ability."
