Even Germany's warring goalkeepers Oliver Khan and Jens Lehmann managed to hold back from physical violence throughout their infamous rivalry.
But, as Guillem Balague told Revista de la Liga, the same restraint was not shown by Deportivo la Coruna stopper Gustavo Munua last week.
Munua attacked team-mate Dudu Aouate in the showers, leaving the Israeli sporting an almighty shiner. So much for the goalkeepers' union.
The damage was not just to Aouate's face. Munua, who had been No 1 since displacing Aouate in early December, and his rival were both dropped from the squad at the weekend, and Depor shipped four goals in defeat at Villarreal.
Guillem revealed: "Aouate received a knock - a fantastic knock, by the way, he did it in just one go - from Munua.
"Apparently Aouate was looking at Munua, who said: 'what the hell are you looking at', and punched him.
"Of course, the story is not just that. The story is that Munua had taken the job of No 1, and while Aouate was on the bench he was briefing some journalists.
"Munua found out about it and (the punch) was Munua trying to punish Aouate for diminishing the fact he was now No 1.
"At the moment they are both out of the squad, but the captain saw what happened at the weekend - four goals conceded - and asked the coach to bring them back if they just apologised to each other.
"Munua apologised to Aouate and everybody else, and Aouate said: 'I don't know, we'll see'. So he is keeping a little bit of mystery there."
