White: Will miss the World Cup.

England captain Phil Vickery is "disappointed" at Julian White's decision to miss the World Cup campaign in France.

The Leicester prop will miss England's defence of the Webb Ellis Trophy after ruling himself out of the tournament due to family reasons.

White has agreed to remain on standby for England, but will not be selected for the 30-man squad when it is announced on August 14.

Vickery holds White in high regard and feels England will miss his quality, commenting: "I can't speak for Julian, but I am disappointed myself he's not here because I think he is a great player.

Respect

"From a tight forward play perspective. There is no doubt Julian is one of the very best in world rugby. It's fact. But it's his decision. It is personal to him, and I think you have to respect that."

Explaining his decision, White said: "It has been a very difficult decision for me to make.

"I have a young family, and I also have a farm to manage, and I feel I cannot commit to the length of time the squad will be away from home.

"It certainly gives a huge opportunity to someone else now."
