Take a look back in time at the history of SW19.

Day three commentary

2103 Ferrer serves out and takes the match with a 6-2 scoreline in the fourth set.

2058 Ferrer will serve for the match at 5-2.

2048 Ferrer has the break in the fourth set and he leads 3-1.

2040 Tremendous toughness from Petzschner as he levels with Ancic at 2-2. He takes the fourth set 6-4.

2030 We are into a fourth set on Court 1 as Ferrer takes the third against Andreev 6-4.

2016 Ferrer gets a break in the third set and he is now 4-2 up.

1957 Petzschner keeps his hopes alive when he takes the third set against Ancic on the tiebreak.

1954 Andreev stages a bit of a rally but Ferrer bags the second set 6-3.

1947 Ferrer is romping away with the second set and leads 5-1. Andreev is forced to applaud a sublime cross-court pass.

1934 Agnieszka Radwanska has completed a quickfire victory over Polish compatriot Marta Domachowska, 6-1 6-3 the score.

1930 Another Spaniard, Fernando Verdasco, is having a better time out on Court 11. The 22nd seed has taken the first set from Olivier Rochus 7-6.

1927 Andreev does indeed serve out - he's taken the first set 6-3 against the fifth seed.

1923 The big guns may have finished for the day, but there's still plenty of action going on at the All England Club. Igor Andreev is now serving for the first set at 5-3 against David Ferrer.

1908 Mario Ancic is now two sets up on Petzschner. He's taken the second 6-4 against the German.

1903 Ferer and Andreev are now under way on Court One, while another big name who has just started is Tomas Berdych. The 11th seed is facing big-serving Romanian Victor Hanescu, although he is more at home on clay. Berdych starts a hot favourite.

1900 We've just heard the order of play for tomorrow and they is plenty of British interest on the showcourts. Anne Keothavong will kick things off on Centre against Venus Williams. Then it will be Andy Murray against Xavier Malisse. The last match on Centre will be Andy Roddick against Janko Tipsarevic. Court One will feature Chris Eaton's clash with Dmitry Tursunov. They will be on third. Rafael Nadal v Latvian Ernests Gulbis could be the match of the day that will kick things off at 1300. They will be followed by Maria Sharapova against Alla Kudryavtseva,

1855 The aforementioned Serena has given her verdict on her 6-4 6-4 win. "I felt I played okay but I was a little tight out there. I just didn't want to go out on Court Two and I was happy to get the first set under my belt." She may not like playing on the outside courts, but the two-time former champion looks set to be back on the show courts on Friday when she plays Amelie Mauresmo. "I had no idea I might play her and I'm excited about that. She's been struggling a lot this year so you can only hope she does well especially being a past champion here and a past champion in general. It will be a good match."

1853 One seed who looks to be cruising though is Agnieszka Radwanska. Her sister Urszula lost earlier to Serena Williams, but Agnieszka, seeded 14, has taken the first set 6-1 against fellow Pole Marta Domachowska.

1851 Another seed has fallen. Francesca Schivone, the 20th ladies' seed, is out after a 3-6 7-5 9-7 defeat to Ana Medina Garrigues. At least the Italian doesn't have far to goo home. She is based in London.

1848 It's been a great day for the top seed. Not only has he won but his predicted semi-final opponent, Novak Djokovic, bowed out. Federer's verdict? "I thought my performance was excellent." Fair enough, Roger. "I'm quite relieved, it could have easily gone four sets. I'm feeling good and moving well."

1845 One match point is saved by Soderling, but Federer seals victory on the second, taking the breaker 7-3. He's through to the third round with a straight-sets win. Soderling was unable to really trouble him today. Next up for the defending champion will be Marc Gicquel or Ilia Bozoljac.

1844 An awful Hawk-eye challenge from Federer. He may be the world number one but his Hawk-eye ranking has to be one of the worst on tour. That was way out. For those who don't know, Federer is not a fan of the system.

1842 Soderling manages to get on the board before the change of ends, but Federer is surely home and dry now.

1841 A double fault and a netted backhand make it 5-0. Soderling is out of here in a minute.

1840 Federer secures an immediate mini-break and races 3-0 ahead.

1838 Federer and Safin are into a tie-break. Soderling must win it to stay in the match.

1836 Fifth seed David Ferrer will be next up on Court One against Igor Andreev. That's a tough one to call as Andreev can be dangerous on his day, while Ferrer isn't always at his best on grass. They have been held up by that Ana Ivanovic three-hour epic earlier. For those who don't know, she saved two match points earlier before winning 6-7 7-6 10-8 against Nathalie Dechy. But the biggest story of the day is that Novak Djokovic is out, beaten in straight sets by Marat Safin.

1834 Soderling has assured himself of at least a tie-break. He now leads 6-5. Over on Court One, Baghdatis has completed a 6-4 6-4 6-4 win over Thomas Johansson. That's a pretty impressive result for the Cypriot who has been to the last eight and the semis in the past two years.

1832 Federer produces a near-perfect service game to move level with Soderling at 5-5. Mario Ancic was thelast man to beat Federer here - back in 2002. They could meet in this year's quarter-finals and Ancic is already a set up against Philipp Petzschner today. Always regarded as a threat on grass, Ancic took the opener 6-1.

1830 Over on Court One, Baghdatis is about to serve for the match.

1828 Now he goes wide and Federer has the chance to break back. Another Soderling backhand sails out and it is back on serve at 4-5. I'd like to say that was a sign of a champion but it was more like a choke from Soderling who isn't exactly renowned for his mental toughness.

1827 Set point to Soderling but he then goes long to be pulled back to deuce.

1825 Crunch time for Soderling. Can he serve out the set? He's about to serve at 5-3.

1823 Soderling produces another solid service game to move 5-2 ahead. Anyone with a bet on Federer to win the title in straight sets now looks to be in trouble.

1821 Anna Chakvetadze is through and she's joined in round three by Amelie Mauresmo. Chakvetadze wrapped up a 6-4 6-2 win, while Mauresmo lost just two games after dropping the first set to Ruano Pascual. She'll now face Serena Williams.

1819 A third chance to break arrive for Soderling after a Federer volley into the net. This one is taken. A crosscourt forehand forces an error and now the Swede is serving at 4-2.

1818 The Swede goes long on the first before some Federer brilliance saves the second. A lob volley sends Federer scampering back but a forehand on the turn forces the volleying error from his opponent. Superb.

1817 Rare problems for Federer. He finds himself 15-40 down - the first break points against his serve.

1815 Certainly better from Soderling now. He slammed down some big serves in that game. That's what I felt would have created more problems for Federer today. It certainly puzzled Nadal here last season. He's still in there fighting but Federer is two sets to the good.

1809 For the first time in a set, Soderling has held his serve in the early stages. He leads Federer 2-1 in the third set.

1805 Thomaz Bellucci is a name who is worth a mention. Many regard him as a star of the future. He's Brazilian and now 20 years old. Yet he was the man who gave Rafael Nadal his toughest test of the recent French Open. He has a strong all-round game and could be a dark horse here, especially now Djokovic is out of his quarter. He's taken the first set against Simon Stadler 6-3. This may not be his tournament but certainly look out for him in the future on the tour.

1802 We have another seeded casualty. Fernando Gonzalez (15) is a goner, going down in four sets to Simone Bolelli. All three sets he lost went to tie-breaks, so perhaps Alex Bogdanovic's defeat to Bolelli on Monday wasn't so bad. Bolelli will now play Lleyton Hewitt.

1800 Federer does indeed take the second set. He was taken to deuce in that game but Soderling went long on set point and is now all but finished. He's twice come from two sets down to win - but against Federer? Next to no chance. Baghdatis also serves out and is two sets up on Johansson.

1757 Baghdatis has broken Johansson again and is now serving for a two-set lead. Federer is in the same boat on Centre.

1754 Amelie Mauresmo is back in business. She's romped through that second set against Ruano Pascual and taken it 6-1. They are into a decider. The winner to face Serena Williams. Williams-Mauresmo would be an attractive clash - that would surely get the 2006 champ back on the show courts.

1751 Chakvetadze takes the first set 6-4 against Gallovits on Court Two. She's off the Russian production line of players and only Justine Henin won more WTA titles last season. However, she's not hit such heights this term and some have put that down to a frightening experience she had during the close season when she was tied up by burglars at her home on the outskirts of Russia. Not particularly pleasant, it has to be said.

1748 Johansson breaks back on Court One against Baghdatis, while Gonzalez did indeed hold to keep his hopes alive against Bolelli.

1746 The trainer is on Centre to treat Soderling who has a problem with a foot blister. Federer is now 4-3 up and is well in control.

1745 Not such good news for Fernando Gonzalez. He's now serving to stay in the match against Bolelli having squandered a break of serve in the fourth set.

1743 While another Federer masterclass takes place on Centre, let's see what else is going on. Baghdatis is now a set and a break up on Johansson on Court One. Eighth seed Anna Chakvetadze is 4-3 up with a break in the first set against Edina Gallovits. And Amelie Mauresmo is refusing to lie down against Ruano Pascual. She's fought back and leads in the second set by four games to one.

1740 Soderling may well be getting frustrated out there. He's just blasted a ball back close to Federer. The Swiss managed to dodge it and the shot went long. That was really an easy put away from Soderling but he missed it. Playing Federer must be so frustrating though. He is just too good!

1738 Federer impressed in the first round and he's looking in pretty good nick again today. He's now 3-2 up with a break in the second set. Here's one for you. Is Federer better than Pete Sampras? My answer would be yes. Of course, he's still 'only' on five titles to Sampras' seven but his all-round game is better for my money. Let us know what you think by emailing me at: andy.schooler@bskyb.com

1734 Agnes Szavay, the 15th seed from Hungary, is into round three. She won that final set against Monica Niculescu 6-2.

1724 Over on Court One, it's Baghdatis who has taken the first set against Johansson by six games to four. Meanwhile, Fernando Gonzalez is on course for an amazing comeback. After losing the first two sets to Simone Bolelli, 'Gonzo' is now a break up in the fourth. A decider beckons.

1721 Mr Soderling is not doing me any favours. A poor volley has just seen him broken in the opening game of set two. Time to revise that prediction. Why on earth did I think the grass master that is Federer would struggle in this one?

1717 Amelie Mauresmo was a hugely popular champion in 20006 but the organisers have done her no favours today. She's out on Court 11 and has dropped the first set 6-4 to Virginia Ruano Pascual. Amelie hasn't been in the best of form of late. She had her appendix removed last season and has never been able to return to her title-winning form. She's now facing a battle. Remember the winner of that one will play Serena Williams next. Some of you may remember Ruano Pascal. It was here in 2001 that she enjoyed arguably the best win of her career when she beat top seed Martina Hingis in the very first round.

1716 The 15th seed Agnes Szavay has turned things around against Niculescu. She won the second set 7-5 and is now 4-0 up in the decider.

1714 Federer takes the first set against Soderling by six games to three. That dropped first service game from the Swede proved crucial. He'll need a better start to the second set if that prediction of mine is to come anywhere close to true.

1711 The shock of the day was Novak Djokovic's straight-sets defeat to Marat Safin. Here's what the beaten third seed had to say: "It was certainly a very bad day for me. I didn't do anything that I was supposed to do. I'm tired mentally, it's been a long season, even though it's only halfway through. But physically I wasn't tired, and that was not the explanation why I lost today. He was just better than me on the court." Safin, meanwhile, says he's going to have to make a phone call - to cancel his flight back to Moscow.

1708 Job done. Williams serves out to love to book her place in the last 32 where she could play former champion Amelie Mauresmo. Williams was not at her best today - in particular her second serve got some treatment - but the Williams sisters often start slowly. Venus was poor in the first week last year and just got better and better en route to the title. Serena will be hoping to do the same.

1706 Serena Williams is about to serve for the match in the second set against Radwanska. 6-4 5-4 is the score on Court Two.

1703 Out on Court 18, Fernando Gonzalez has taken the third set against Simone Bolelli, 6-3. He still has plenty of work to do though - another two sets are required if the 15th seed is to survive.

1700 Better from Soderling. He gets forward more in that game and finishes it off at the net to cut the deficit to 3-1. He's never beaten Federer in six attempts but the closest he came was when they met on grass in Halle three years ago. That one went to 6-4 in the final set.

1655 It's been a flying start from Federer. A glorious cross-court forehand has just seen him into a 3-0 lead. He's probably been buoyed by that defeat for Djokovic earlier - they were due to meet in the semis. As a result, Federer is now an odds-on chance for the title again with the bookies.

1651 I've already made a fool of myself! Soderling's serve is usually a big plus in his game but he's conceded it in his first game. Federer leads 2-0. Anyone agree with my analysis? Let us know your thoughts on any of today's action. Email me - andy.schooler@bskyb.com

1646 Federer and Soderling are under way on Centre. If you were following the action with us earlier you'll know I had this one down as a potentially close contest. In fact in my outright betting preview I felt 14/1 about Federer going out in round two was too big. Soderling pushed Rafael Nadal to five sets here last year and has been in good form on the ATP Tour this year. He's a big outsider admittedly, but then so was Safin earlier today. I'd still expect Federer to win but it could well be that this goes to four or even five sets.

1645 A chance to catch our breath and bring you some other news from around the grounds. Serena Williams is now a set and a break up, but 15th seed Agnes Szavay is a set down to Romania's Monica Niculescu. Fernando Gonzalez is also in trouble. After a set of no breaks of serve, he's lost the second on a tie-break to Simone Bolelli. The Italian is now two sets to the good. Amelie Mauresmo, the champion two years ago, is now on court. She's just started against Virginia Ruano Pascual.

1639 So Ivanovic, the top seed, survives. However, her fellow Serb Novak Djokovic was not so fortunate. If you haven't heard yet, he lost in straight sets to Marat Safin. Roger Federer is next up on Centre against Robin Soderling, while Court One is awaiting Marcos Baghdatis and Thomas Johansson.

1637 A delighted Ivanovic has just admitted she was "really lucky" to surive today. Asked about her lucky net cord when match point down, Ivanovic said: "From that point on I just thought of the match as a second chance."

1633 Finally - Ivanovic has won. 6-7 7-6 10-8 against Dechy. A forehand winner seals victory. That really was some match. The top seed saved two match points in the second set - one with a very lucky net cord. Ivanovic acknowledges that at the end by walking forward to kiss the spot where the ball hit. Dechy, meanwhile, heads to her chair and buries her head in a towel. She was so close to a remarkable victory.

1632 Dechy falls 0-40 down. It looks as if she's finally cracked. She saves the first well.

1630 Kuznetsova has finished on Centre. She emerges a comfortable 6-2 6-3 winner. Bondarenko froze on her Centre Court debut and was beaten in just over an hour.

1628 Make that 9-8. Ivanovic is again solid on serve and loses just one point in that game.

1627 On they go on Court One. Dechy really has played well today and her serve there was in fine working order despite the tension. It's now 8-8.

1625 Out on Court Two, Serena Williams has moved into a one-set lead against Radwanska. 6-4 the score for the two-time champion. She's been a victim of the 'Champions Graveyard' in the past but it looks like she may well be OK today.

1622 Ivanovic replies with a dominant game to move back in front at 8-7.

1621 Marion Bartoli is back in the third round. Last year's runner-up came from a break down in the second set to post a 6-2 7-5 win over Perebiynis. So far so good from the player who stunned SW19 12 months ago.

1619 Mentally, Dechy has been spot on today. There were no signs at all of a slip in that game. A comfortable hold makes it 7-7. Ivanovic obviously has the advantage of serving first in this final set but it really is anyone' guess who will emerge victorious from this.

1618 On Centre, Kuznetsova is a set and a break up although she's been sloppy with plenty of errors creeping into her game against Bondarenko.

1616 Ivanovic holds for 7-6 in the decider. Court One is packed and no wonder. A reminder that we've already had a big shock today with Novak Djokovic crashing out to Marat Safin. Ivanovic is fighting to survive now.

1613 Dechy survives and levels at 6-6. Both players have now missed two match points. We are over three hours into this one now.

1612 Dechy again plays a fine point. A forehand deep into the corner sees her opponent send a shot wide.

1612 Here's another chance for Ivanovic though. Dechy goes long and it's another match point.

1611 Nerveless from Dechy. An excellent second serve sets up a forehand winner from the forecourt. Deuce.

1610 Now it's match point Ivanovic at 30-40.

1608This could be the end. Great defence from Ivanovic help her send a sliced winner down the line for 0-30.

1605 That would have made it 15-30. Instead Ivanovic reels off three points in a row and it's 6-5. She got lucky again there. A reminder to anyone just joining us that she's already had a huge stroke of luck in this match. Dechy had two match points in the second set and Ivanovic saved one with a net cord which dropped dead.

1603 Dechy hits what she thinks is a volley winner but her hat was falling off in the process. Ivanovic appeals to the umpire that she was distracted and indeed a let will be played. Dechy immediately ditches the hat.

1601 She's a real fighter Dechy, but then what do you expect from someone who has been ranked 11 in the world. She holds and levels the decider at 5-5. It's hard to understand how someone hasn't seen this one out yet. Remember there'll be no tie-break in this set.

1556 This Ivanovic-Dechy clash is unbelievable. Ivanovic falls 0-40 down serving for the match. Two break points are saved but not a third. Dechy stays alive and makes it 4-5.

1555 Over on Centre, Kuznetsova has taken the first set 6-2 against Bondarenko. So far she just looks way too good.

1554 Ivanovic is now looking to finish Dechy off. She breaks - a thrid break in a row - and is now serving for a place in round two at 5-3.

1553 Serena Williams is now out on Court Two. She's taking on Polish teenager Urszula Radwanska. We'll keep an eye on that one for you.

1549 Dechy gets another chance after Ivanovic goes long. This time a poor drop shot allows Dechy to come forward and take the game. It's now the Frenchwoman to serve at 3-4. So much for her resolve finally being broken!

1548 Dechy forces break point again, but a good serve to the body from Ivanovic sets up an easy winner.

1547 Bolelli has taken the first set against Gonzalez on a tie-break. Remember the winner of that one will play Safin in the last 32.

1545 Another follows and this time Ivanovic strikes. She leads 4-2 and for the first time today has control of the match. Now she's looking to see the job through. Dechy's resolve may finally have been broken here.

1544 Now it's break point saved by Dechy on Court One where they are two and half hours in now.

1539 We've just heard that Ferrero's reason for quitting was a leg injury.

1538 Ivanovic fight back from break point down to move into a 3-2 final-set lead against Dechy. She's hanging in there.

1536 What else is going on around the grounds, I hear you ask. Well last year's runner-up Marion Bartoli has taken the first set against Tatiana Perebiynis 6-2, while fifth seed Dementieva has completed her first-round match - shge came through 6-3 in the final set against Maria Elena Camerin. She'll want to improve on that.

1533 Lleyton Hewitt is into round three. He's wrapped up a 7-6 6-0 6-2 victory over Albert Montanes. He'll play Fernando Gonzalez or Simone Bolelli next.

1531 Just to let you know, fourth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova has just begun her match on Centre against Kateryna Bondarenko. After the Djokovic-Safin clash, this is a bit of a come down. Who knows though, the ways things are going today it could be another shock.

1530 Further to Muneeb's views on the ladies' singles, the general view of our users is that Maria Sharapova will win the title. She's had 32 per cent of the vote in today's poll. Feel free to vote - it's at the bottom left of our microsite.

1527 Dechy levels at 1-1. There are some long games and long rallies going on on Court One where Ivanovic has already saved two match points. It's tense in the decider.

1525 We told you about Juan Carlos Ferrero's struggles earlier. Well, it's just got all too much for him. He's quit his match with Mischa Zverev in the third set. He'd already lost the first two.

1523 If you want to comment on what either myself or any of our contributors has to say, email me: andy.schooler@bskyb.com

1520 Here's some feedback from Muneeb Dawood and it's music to my ears. "I have to agree with you on Ivanovic; I admire her play, and a few other aspects, but I think she will struggle to dominate at SW19. Her game hinges on a brutal forehand coupled with excellent movement; with the latter allowing her to bring her forehand into play - on grass, you don't have the time as have on clay to do this. Sharapova and the Williams sisters should be odds-on favourites, and if Jankovic can sort out her semi-final bogey, she might be a finalist."

Yeah, she is a bit of a looker, Muneeb, but I can't see her winning the title. By the way, she's just taken the first game of the decider.

1515 Safin has just admitted that he didn't bother looking at the draw beyond the second round - he clearly expected to lose to Djokovic. "I'll have to check," he says. "But the way I'm playing right now I can go far." Few people will argue against that after his display today. We can tell Marat that next up for him will be Italian claycourter Andreas Seppi.

1512 Another double and it's all over! Djokovic is out, beaten in three sets by Safin who was back to his best today. That's a massive shock. Roger Federer, due on court later, will be celebrating. He had been due to face Djokovic in the semis but the path to another final is clear now for the top seed.

1511 Safin misses another match point but is handed a fourth by a Djokovic double fault.

1510 Ivanovic sends down a big serve to win the breaker 7-3. From match points down she has levelled the match. It's about to go into it's third hour, so fitness could well play a part.

1509 That's good stuff from Djokovic though. He takes control of both points to level at deuce. Meanwhile, Ivanovic moves 6-3 ahead in the breaker. Three set points.

1508 Another superb backhand down the line from Safin brings up two match points.

1507 Ivanovic leads 4-2 at the change of ends. Remember the top seed has already saved two match points in this one.

1506 Dechy hits back to level at two points all but then throws in an untimely double fault.

1505 Ivanovic grabs an early mini-break, while Safin makes it 5-2 and is now just a game away from eliminating third seed Djokovic. The problem for the Serb has been returning serve. He has won just 29 per cent of points on Safin's serve today - that's a surprise given he is regarded as one of the best returners in the game.

1504 A confident hold this time from Ivanovic - to love. It's another tie-break. Can Dechy claim it and with it a huge victory?

1502 Former French Open champion Juan Carlos Ferrero is now two sets down to Mischa Zverev. 6-4 6-4 is the score.

1501 A tough game for Dechy but she comes through it to lead 6-5. Again Ivanovic will serve to stay in the tournament.

1459 Lleyton Hewitt has swept through the second set against Montanes 6-0 and he now has a two-set lead. It looks like it will be an expected straight-sets win for the brash Aussie.

1457 At two sets and 4-1 up, surely only one of Marat Safin's mad moments can stop him from dumping third seed Novak Djokovic out now. The trouble is he's capable of collapsing at any time.

1456 A reminder that you can send us your views on today's action in SW19 and if you have any tennis-related questions, feel free to ask. Email: andy.schooler@bskyb.com

1453 Ivanovic stays alive. She holds from two match points down to level the second set at 5-5.

1451 What luck. Ivanovic gets the best of a net cord which drops dead on Dechy's side of the net. Deuce.

1450 It's match point - two to Dechy. The fist is saved well by Ivanovic, coming in to hit a forehand winner.

1448 Dechy staves off break points to hold for a 5-4 lead in the second set against Ivanovic. The top seed must now hold to stay in the championships.

1447 Break point Safin and a double fault from Djokovic sees him fall 2-0 down in the third set. A shock looks a real possibility now.

1445 Frank Dancevic, David Nalbandian's conqueror, is out. He's lost in four sets to Bobby Reynolds.

1444 The 13th seed, Stanislas Wawrinka, has just wrapped up a straight-sets win over Juan Martin Del Potro.

1442 Djokovic has only once in his career fought back from two sets down to win. He'll have to do so here against Safin to keep his title hopes alive.

1441 We mentioned fifth seed Elena Dementieva earlier. She's still in her first-round match and has been taken into a final set by Maria Elena Camerin. The Italian has just won the second set on a tie-break.

1440 Over on Court One, Dechy now leads Ivanovic by a set and 4-3, on serve in the second set. We could have two huge shocks in the next hour.

1439 Djokovic saves two on his serve but with the balls in his hand, Safin duly bangs down an unreturnable to open a two-set lead. Djokovic, the third seed and many people's title fancy, is in big trouble.

1438 A glorious forehand down the line brings up five set points for Safin.

1437 Djokovic wins a Hawk-eye challenge - the ball was indeed in. He wants the point but the umpire insists they play a let. Safin wins the point and it's 5-1 at the change of ends.

1436 Safin secures the first mini-break to lead 3-1. A brilliant return then forces an error and Safin leads 4-1 with two serves to come.

1435 Dechy breaks back to level at 3-3 against Ivanovic. Could this be the shock of the tournament? She's certainly playing well.

1432 Safin holds to 30 and the second set is into a tie-break. With Safin already a set up, this is massive. Tie-break records are contrasting in 2008. Safin 5-11, Djokovic 11-5. Let's see what happens.

1431 Lleyton Hewitt has taken the opening set on a tie-break against Albert Montanes. He's on course to avoid that Court Two curse!

1430 Safin steps up to serve at 5-6. Meanwhile, news of 21st Juan Carlos Ferrero - he's lost the first set 6-4 to Mischa Zverev, a dangerous Russian.

1426 Safin produced a nerveless love game to level at 5-5. This set looks to heading for a tie-break with serve dominating at the moment.

1424 We're getting to the business end of the second set on Centre. Safin is serving at 4-5.

1422 Frank Dancevic, the Canadian who caused the biggest upset on day one by beating David Nalbandian, is struggling to back up that result. He's two sets to one down to American Bobby Reynolds out on Court 18.

1419 The Ivanovic fightback may just have begun. She's just broken Dechy's serve to take a 2-1 lead in the second set. Still plenty of work to do for the top seed though. She's been nowhere near her best so far today.

1416 Djokovic-Safin has moved on to 3-3 in the second set. There's still no sign of a meltdown from the temperamental Russian. I don't think he's even smashed a racquet yet which indicates how well the 'Mad Monk' is playing.

1413 A look at what is happening around the grounds. Stanislas Wawrinka, the 13th seed, is two sets up on young Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro. Meanwhile, women's fifth seed Elena Dementieva is attempting to close out her first-round match against Maria Elena Camerin. Their clash was suspended due to fading light last night.

1407 Dechy takes the tie-break 7-2 and the top seed is in trouble! Ivanovic led 5-2 in the set but then lost five of the next six games. The French Open champion has it all to do.

1405 Dechy leads 5-1 at change of ends and we have the prospect of another upset brewing on Court One too. A great start to the day this has been.

1404 Djokovic finds his first serve at the right time and manages to hold for a 2-1 lead in the second set. He lost thhe first remember. Meanwhile, Dechy has raced into a 4-0 lead in the breaker against Ivanovic.

1403 Djokovic saves a break point but then goes wide to hand the Russian another. A big serve saves this one. The Serb is really struggling to fend off the 2005 Australian Open champ.

1401Dechy takes the first set against Ivanovic into a tie-break.

1350 Safin serves out the first set against Djokovic, taking it 6-4. Do we have a big shock taking shape here? The Russian came from 0-30 down there, showing an ability to play the big points well. This is a two-time Grand Slam champion, but beating Djokovic today would still be the biggest shock of the tournament so far.

1345 Ivanovic is not having things all her own way on Court One. Dechy has just got the set back on serve by breaking to make it 4-5. She's not a bad player at all having been ranked as high as 11 in the world back in 2006. Much has been expected of Ivanovic here this year after her French Open win, but my view is that she may strruggle to get her forehand working as effectively on the grass. I've already nailed my colours to the mast and am backing a Williams sister to win. Probably Serena. Let me know your views by emailing me at andy.schooler@bskyb.com

1342 Vaidisova clinches victory against Stosur. She wins 6-4 in the final set and progresses into round three where she will play Australian Casey Dellacqua.

1340 A third break in a row in the Safin-Djokovic clash and Safin now leads 4-3. This has all the makings of a classic at present, with the powerful Safin really striking the ball cleanly.

1338 Court Two has earned the nickname the 'Champions Graveyard' over the years. Lleyton Hewitt won't want to hear that. The 2002 winner is about to start out there against Spaniard Albert Montanes. Hewitt struggled through the first round in five sets but in theory shouldn't have too many problems against Montanes, a player who is very much a claycourt specialist.

1336 Djokovic recovers the break and it's back on serve at 3-3 on Centre. Over on Court One, Ivanovic now leads Dechy 5-2 and looks in control.

1334 Vaidisova seems to have got her act together at last. She's now 5-3 up in the final set against Stosur having come from a break down. That's been a real see-saw match.

1332 A break of serve for Safin leaves him serving at 3-2. Too early to get big-headed, but I did say he had the potential to cause Djokovic problems in this one.

1326 Safin, who once famously said that grass "was for cows" and not tennis, has started well enough against Djokovic. He's just held to love to level at 2-2. His big serve is always a problem for opponents. His best effort in SW19 was to reach the last eight back in 2001. He lost to the eventual champion Goran Ivanisevic on that occasion, while last year it took Roger Federer to halt his run.

1322 Zheng progresses to round three where she is likely to face top seed Ana Ivanovic. Ivanovic is already 3-1 up against Nathalie Dechy. The Chinese star is sure to be back in the top 100 soon and probably a lot higher, from what we've seen today. Baltacha will be disappointed. She should have been able to close out that second set.

1321 An error from Baltacha at 30-30 brings up match point to Zheng - and then Baltacha sends a forehand just wide. It's all over, 6-2 7-5.

1320 A bizarre incident in the Baltacha match. The pair are rallying away when a stray ball arrives from the court next door! In case you didn't know, they now have to play a let. A good job it wasn't at a crucial stage in this vital 12th game.

1316 Zheng holds to 15. Baltacha is about to serve to stay in the match at 5-6.

1314 Over on Centre, Djokovic holds in the opening game from 0-40. Safin has already shown he's dangerous. I'm going for the Serb in four sets today.

1313 But a double fault from the Briton follows and she then pulls a forehand wide. It's back to 5-5. I hate to say it but the words Briton and choke are never too far away from each other in SW19.

1312 Baltacha saves a break point to level at deuce.

1311 Vaidisova is in collapse mode.. She's just lost the second set 6-0 to Stosur and they are into a decider.

1309 Baltacha breaks again and now leads 5-4. She'll serve to level the match at one set apiece. Meanwhile, play is just beginning on the show courts. Djokovic is on Centre and Ivanovic on Court One.

1300 A setback for Baltacha. From 40-15 up she immediately hands the break back. 3-3.

1256 Baltacha breaks for a 3-2 lead! A yelp of 'come on' from the Briton reflects that she's really into this match now.

1255 Novak Djokovic will shortly be taking to the Centre Court. He's up against Marat Safin, the former world number one. They've met once before and Safin lost just three games. Admittedly that was when Djokovic was a real youngster but the memory of that crushing defeat could have an effect. Does Safin have a chance today? Let us know your view: andy.schooler@bskyb.com

1250 Baltacha has definitely improved. She got forward more in that game and duly held to 15. She is well built and subsequently can hit with plenty of power. It's 2-2 and things are looking up for the Briton.

1247 A love hold for Zheng - the first of the match - makes it 2-1 in her favour. Meanwhile, Stosur is threatening to fight back against Vaidisova. She has an early break in the second set.

1245 A decent - and essential hold - from Baltacha. That should give her some confidence. 1-1, second set.

1242 Zheng holds serve in the opening game of the second set. She is controlling the rallies from the baseline.

1240 Vaidisova takes the first set against Stosur 6-2. She's a potential last-16 foe for top seed Ana Ivanovic.

1238 Zheng polishes off the first set, breaking Baltacha to win the set 6-2. She needs a big turnaround if she is to reach round three.

1234 A great pass from Zheng during the seventh game shows the task Baltacha is facing. She is trying to attack but the Chinese looks capable of picking her off if she does so. 5-2.

1231 A first hold for 'Baly' makes it 4-2. That was a strong service game - the serve is one of Baltacha's best facets and if she can serve like that for the rest of the match this won't be the foregone conclusion it looked a short while ago.

1229 Baltacha is on the board! She breaks the Chinese's serve and seems to be finding her rhythm a bit more now. 4-1.

1227 Elsewhere, Nicole Vaidisova is a big name in early action today. She's not been in great form of late after missing part of the spring due to injury. However, the leggy blonde is already 4-1 up on Samantha Stosur in her second-round match with a double break of serve. The Czech, still only 19, made the quarter-finals here last year.

1225 I'm afraid the writing is already on the wall on Court Two. Baltacha dumps a shot into the net to drop serve again and she's 4-0 down.

1221 Zheng looks solid from the back of the court and has just moved 3-0 ahead. For those of you who don't know, Baltacha is from a sporting family. He father was Russian footballer Sergei, who played for Ipswich Town and then moved on to Scottish side St Johnstone. Subsequently Elena has a cracking accent - part Russian, part Suffolk twang and part Scottish!

1217 Not a good start for Baltacha. From 40-30 in her opening service game, the Briton loses to fall down 0-2.

1213 The opening game sees Zheng hold to 30.

1211 A reminder that we encourage you to email in your thoughts. What did you think of Andy Murray's display yesterday for example? And do you give Baltacha a chance in this one? Email me, Andy Schooler, at andy.schooler@bskyb.com

1209 Out on Court Two, Baltacha all set to face Jie Zheng. Baltacha is ranked 158 in the world and Zheng 133 but don't let that fool you. Zheng has been as high as 27 but missed much of last season due to ankle injury. She's now on her way back but clearly isn't back to her best just yet. This would still be a great scalp for Baltacha should she win. If she does, she'll equal her run to the third round in 2002. Play is just about to start.

1200 Players are out around the ground warming up and there's another decent forecast today so, fingers crossed, we get a third day in a row without any weather interruptions.

1155 There's just the one Briton in singles action today and that's Elena Baltacha. She's up first on Court Two at 1200 against China's Jie Zheng. We'll focus on that match for the first hour or so.

1150 Court One's matches today see top seed Ana Ivanovic take on Nathalie Dechy before Marcos Baghdatis faces Thomas Johansson, the former Australian Open champion. FInally it's Igor Andreev against fifth seed David Ferrer.

1140 Welcome to our coverage of day three of Wimbledon 2008. This could be a cracking day's play with two matches of serious note on Centre, starting at 1300. First up, third seed Novak Djokovic faces former world number one Marat Safin. The Russian has never performed at his best on grass but he's such a talent thatif he hits his straps today, he could certainly cause Djokovic problems. Third on Centre is defending champion Roger Federer but he may not have things all his own way against Robin Soderling. The Swede was within a couple of points of beating Rafael Nadal here 12 months ago and has been in good form of late. That could be trickier than many expect.
