Furyk, after a slow start to the year, has started to come to the boil in recent weeks and is definitely on the shortlist for potential winners. The American found his form again with a third place at Congressional at the start of July and was tied for the lead halfway through round three in the Open Championship at Birkdale before rebounding from a poor back nine to finish tied fifth. Furyk has a consistent record in the USPGA with top 10s in 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2002 although his recent efforts have been disappointing. However, Oakland Hills could be a good venue for Furyk as he played in the 1996 US Open held there and finished tied for fifth. A second major title for the man with the loopy swing would come as no surprise.
