Hughes: Won't shout from rooftops
Manchester City boss Mark Hughes says the club are in talks with a 'number of players' and is not surprised to be linked with Ronaldo.
Hughes is looking to add to his squad before the transfer window closes next Monday and has been linked with a string of possible signings.
Speaking ahead of Thursday's Uefa Cup qualifying tie with FC Midtjylland, Hughes confirmed work is going on behind the scenes.
"We're still in negotiations and discussions with a number of players and their advisers," Hughes told Sky Sports News.
"We'll see what happens. Three or four days before the end of the window, then things start to hot up quite a bit."
Legendary Brazilian striker Ronaldo has been mooted as a target for City, but Hughes was non-committal on a bid for the former Real Madrid ace.
When asked if he was surprised by the link, Hughes replied: "Not really, because if they're Brazilian, and they're available, more often than not we're linked with them.
"There's plenty of speculation about lots of players at this time of year, but I don't think there's anything substantial in it at this moment in time.
"We're a good club and an attractive club to come to. Players may well be interested, and more so their agents."
Hughes adopted a similar stance to reports he wants to sign Chelsea's former City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips and West Ham United striker Craig Bellamy.
He added: "We've enquired about a number of players, but I don't really want to mention names as that's not really the way we want do our business.
"If we can do good business without anybody else knowing that is always the best way, because if you shout from the rooftops then sometimes people get to hear about it and jump in, so we try to keep things a little low key and, if anything happens, I'll tell you."
