Toshack: Poor defeat
Wales manager John Toshack admitted to a disappointing night for his country on Wednesday.
Toshack saw his senior side sink to a disappointing 2-1 loss to Georgia at Swansea, while at Wrexham the Under 21s missed the chance to seal their place in the European Championship play-offs after losing to Romania.
Toshack is now looking for some improvement ahead of their opening World Cup qualifiers next month.
"I think when you look at the young players we have coming through, we don't have a player over 28 [in this squad] and I think players reach their peak when they get there and we need players like [Daniel] Gabbidon and [Craig] Bellmay to be fit, it is difficult enough for us and without them it is tougher - but second half we were second best," Toshack told Sky Sports News.
"The Under 21s tried and possibly deserved the result but the Romanians were intelligent and we have to try and put things right.
"We have had a bad day at the office on two fronts. I am very disappointed with the manner of the defeat, and the goals we conceded were just schoolboy mistakes.
"In the first half we played some very good football and could have been further in the lead.
"Our football certainly deserved more of a reward, but we lacked a cutting edge in the second period.
"That second half was a very different story, and you could see it coming in the end."
Under 21 boss Brian Flynn is hoping his side can still progress to the next phase, with the final game away in Romania next month.
"The boys did enough to win the game and we did not take our chances, we have proved we can score goals prior to this game," he said.
"We have got another chance out in Romania which will be very difficult. Romania have only conceded one goal in the competition and are a difficult team to play against and they showed us that respect, and you have to take your chances at this level.
"It's a golden opportunity that has passed us by tonight.
"The positive thing to take from the game is that we have shown Romania that we are capable of beating them, I would have worries if we were going to Romania with no chance, but we have."
