Southgate: On the look out
Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate admits he is still actively looking to bring in new faces.
Boro have been relatively quiet in the transfer market this summer, bringing in just two new signings in the shape of Marvin Emnes and Didier Digard.
Southgate, who has been linked with the likes of James Harper and Jimmy Bullard, says he is considering making further signings.
"We are still actively monitoring things," Southgate told Sky Sports News.
"We are always looking to improve. We feel the two lads [Marvin Emnes and Didier Digard] who have come in have had a good effect on things.
"Having brought in Afonso at the end of last season, there are lots of good things here.
"It is never fair to talk about players from other clubs, but we have to look at all areas - if there are players that are better than what we have, or deals that we think are right for the club then we have to think about them."
Southgate admits he is delighted with his latest crop of young talent, but admits the club are still working on their scouting structure.
"We have great young talent coming through, most of which was born within 15 miles of here," he said.
"But we have got to be aware that this is a global market and so slowly we are building up our knowledge of that and we are building up our recruitment but we are slowly seeing the benefits of that and Marvin and Didier Digard are the first fruits of that if you like."
