Moutinho: Everton target
Everton owner and chairman Bill Kenwright claims that Joao Moutinho is just one of David Moyes' major summer transfer targets.
Sporting Lisbon have already rejected one offer of £11.8million for the Portugal international midfielder, but the Goodison Park club have not given up their pursuit.
And Kenwright insists that there are a number of other players Everton are interested in, who have so far gone undetected in the transfer rumour mill.
With striker Andy Johnson's move to Fulham close to completion, the Toffees are eager to strengthen their squad and Moyes wants to bring up to half a dozen new players to the club.
Kenwright told Sky Sports News: "That is one of the ones you can believe in the papers.
"He (Moutinho) is one of his (Moyes') major targets, but there are others who have not made the papers yet, thankfully.
"David said last week in America, 'I am only going to bring in players who will take the club forward', and that is how he is.
"He is relentless in that, I have never known David say, 'he'll do' or 'that'll do'. He takes his time, pinpoints and focuses.
"And when I actually see the player he has focused on I say, 'I get it'. I saw one this weekend on a football pitch and I said, 'Yeah, I see why we want that particular player'."
Meanwhile, Everton have appointed Robert Elstone as their acting chief executive following the shock exit last week of Keith Wyness.
The decision was expected, with the Goodison Park club keen to re-establish stability by promoting Elstone, who had been Wyness' deputy.
Kenwright said: "Robert has been with us for more than three years and is, I believe, now fully conversant with the very special demands associated with running a club of our size and stature."
