Jarvis: Third fastest
Oliver Jarvis feels he can still fire his Team Great Britain car around the Durban track quicker despite recording the third fastest time in Thursday's practice.
Only two other drivers could clock a faster time than the one minute 19.207 seconds Jarvis recorded around the testing street circuit in South Africa.
Team Netherlands driver Jeroen Bleekemolen set the fastest time in practice, while Team Germany's Michael Ammermuller made an impressive debut to grab the second time.
Jarvis has a good record around the street circuits, as he proved when setting his time in the afternoon session after sitting out the morning period.
The Briton was happy with his practice time, but still thinks there is more speed he and the team can squeeze out of the car.
"I think it was a reasonable start, definitely - we're quite pleased with the progress we've made," said Jarvis.
"I think third overall means we're in a good position. There's more to come from me and more to come from the car.
"We'll work very hard overnight, myself and the team, and we'll look forward to hitting the track tomorrow and trying to be even stronger and faster."
Jarvis defended his team's decision not to run a car in this morning's rookie session.
"It can be a disadvantage in some ways, but the progress we made in the second session was very good," he said.
"From our point of view, it's probably too much of a risk for us to run an inexperienced rookie. If he was to put it in the wall we would have lost time in the second session.
"I think [our pace] proved it was the right decision."
Bleekemolen was happy to be driving on the street after some struggling performances recently by the Dutch car.
"I like racing on these tracks," he said.
"We have been struggling with the car at the last few races and it's going much better on street circuits.
"It looks like we have a much better set-up for that and it looks like we have a good chance this weekend."
Join championship leaders New Zealand and France were both well off the pace, but third-placed Switzerland clocked the fourth fastest time.
Home favourite Adrian Zaugg won the feature race at Eastern Creek last time out, and his South African car registered the sixth fastest time as he looks for a home victory.
"I'm pretty confident," he said. "We'll see after qualifying on Saturday, but I think we should be in good shape."
