England and Bath front-row forward Matt Stevens is likely to miss the autumn internationals after undergoing a second operation on his shoulder.
Stevens, who made a big impact on the world scene during the previous November Tests, originally required surgery to correct his rotator cuff tendon back in April.
The 23-year-old had hoped to be back training by the time the new Premiership season got underway, but scans have revealed a delayed response in his recovery.
A frustrated Stevens will now spend the next six weeks in recuperation, after which he hopes to finally embark on his rehabilitation programme.
News of the Bath man's absence will disappoint England boss Andy Robinson, who was highly impressed with the prop in last season's Tests against New Zealand and - in particular - Samoa.
Stevens then added to his growing reputation with solid displays in the Six Nations, before injury struck to rule him out of the summer tour to Australia.
Club side Bath may benefit however, if Stevens chooses to use domestic rugby to improve his fitness during the Investec Challenge matches.
