Danny Cipriani will still play some part in London Wasps' Premiership title bid despite being ruled out of the match with a horrific injury.

The talented fly-half underwent surgery on Sunday at Lister Hospital in London after suffering a fracture dislocation of his right ankle during the play-off semi-final victory over Bath.

However, although Cipriani is facing around six months on the sidelines, Wasps are still keen to keep the 20-year-old involved for the Twickenham showpiece against Leicester.

Head coach Shaun Edwards visited Cipriani on Monday and offered him the chance to analysis the Tigers' back play in a bid to keep his spirits up.

Edwards told The Telegraph: "The Wasps medical team is the best I've come across in 25 years of sport. Of course Danny is down but he's a competitor and he will fight his way back through this.

Demons

"It's important that he's kept busy and involved, which is why I've asked him to help me do our analysis for the final against Leicester.

"Danny's bound to have his demons about this from time to time.

"He's gutted at the moment, as any competitor would be. That sort of depression is normal. He's got to expect that. But I also know that the Wasps family will look after him.

"We often speak about the need for fortitude here, about battling through the tough times. We'll be there for Danny. He's not going to be rushed. It will take time to come to terms with it and I'm sure Danny will make the final steps towards a full recovery.

"Many a young player has had a setback and come back the stronger. I'm sure Danny will."

I have to agree with the comment below. I was also at Adams Park that day and it was devastating for all Wasps fans to see Ciprinai injured. I don't think a single day has gone by since when I haven't thought about it and it will stay with me for a long time, but it was great to see him up and about at the Guinness Premiership Final. Get well soon Danny!

As a long-standing rugby supporter who also supports Wasps, I had the unfortunate experience to see Danny's injury first hand. It wasn't pretty, far from it. And I couldn't see it anywhere near as closely as his fellow team-mates and his mates from Bath. All I can say guys is keep your heads up. Everyone who was at Adams Park that day will remember this for a long long while to come. I've had the unfortunate luck to witness one of my own team-mates collapse and require CPR on the field and believe me when I say it haunts you for a long while. Anyway, all I can say otherwise is get well soon Danny. And be comforted by the knowledge that, at Wasps, you have the best medical team in the premiership, and that every coach, player and supporter up and down the country wishes you well on your recovery to that white 10 jersey.
