Wakefield keen on Morrison

Morrison: Wakefield target

The signing of Terry Newton and speaking to Glenn Morrison is an indication we are not looked upon as poor old Wakefield any more. You are not going to a backwater or anything like that - we are looked on as a potential top-six team.

Wakefield Wildcats have offered Bradford second rower Glenn Morrison the opportunity to remain in the engage Super League next season.

The Bulls have already announced the 33-year-old former Parramatta forward will not be offered a new contract when his present deal expires at the end of the current campaign.

Morrison has made just nine appearances this year due to rib and wrist injuries.

Wakefield coach John Kear said: "He is obviously out of contract at the end of the year and becomes a free agent.

"We have chatted to Glenn and if things progress we would be absolutely delighted.

"Glenn was consistently outstanding in the NRL, was great over here when he joined Bradford and has played State of Origin.

"They are the type of players you want to be associated with."

Morrison joined Bradford in 2007 and has played 49 times for the club, scoring 21 tries.

Potential

A move across West Yorkshire to Belle Vue would see Morrison follow his Bulls team-mate Terry Newton, who has already committed to the Wildcats for 2010.

Kear added: "The signing of Terry Newton and speaking to Glenn Morrison is an indication we are not looked upon as poor old Wakefield any more.

"You are not going to a backwater or anything like that - we are looked on as a potential top-six team."

Kear has also confirmed his interest in North Queensland prop Shane Tronc, who is also coming out of contract and reportedly interested in moving to England.

"He is a good player. If you look at the stats week-in, week-out in the NRL, he is amongst the best," Kear said.
