Newton: Not available for Scotland
Hull KR forward Clint Newton admits he's unlikely to be playing in this year's World Cup after failing in his bid to qualify for Scotland.
The son of an Australian father and an English mother, the 25-year-old was actually born in the United States, who have not qualified for the tournament.
Although raised Down Under before coming over to play in the engage Super League, Newton believed he qualified for Scotland through one of his grandparents.
However his hopes have been dashed after it turned out to be his great grandmother who was Scottish, meaning he will not be lining up alongside Robins team-mate Ben Fisher in the 10-team event.
"I've been ruled out of the Scotland side as it was my great grandmother who was from Scotland and not my grandmother," he told the Hull Daily Mail.
"Australia aren't interested as I'm playing over here. England have made it known I won't be under consideration for their squad either.
"America haven't qualified for this tournament, but if they qualify for the next one and I'm in a position to play for them then I'd be happy to play for them too.
"It's disappointing as it would be great to play in a World Cup, but if it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be. I'll be happy to have a good, solid season with Rovers."
