Wright: Showing a different side

Obviously a lot of the time I get pushed up the order to go into powerplays, which I'm happy to do, but that was a chance to actually bat and show people another side

Luke Wright believes he showed another side to his game in his last batting performance for England which he hopes to display further during the tour to South Africa.

The Sussex all-rounder is currently undergoing preparations with the rest of the squad for England's 50-over opener against the Diamond Eagles in Bloemfontein.

Wright is eager to expand on the notable performance he gave last time he appeared for England during the Champions Trophy semi-final defeat to Australia.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat in that game, England had only managed 101 for six before 24-year-old Wright (48) partnered Tim Bresnan (80) to secure 107 between them, contributing to a competitive 257 overall.

Different

"I think the nice thing about it (that partnership) on a personal note, was that it showed a different side of my game," said Wright, who will feature in all three squads for the South Africa tour.

"It was not all crash, bang, wallop that I've been renowned for.

"Obviously a lot of the time I get pushed up the order to go into powerplays, which I'm happy to do, but that was a chance to actually bat and show people another side."

Wright believes there is room for improvement in the England squad following the Champions Trophy and is keen for the limited-overs leg of the tour to get underway.

"I think as a team there were a lot of things we could take away as positives, but there is still a lot of work for us to do," he added.

"We've showed that if we play to our best, we've got a great chance."

England are set to play two Twenty20 internationsla, five ODIs and four Tests against South Africa, starting at the Wanderers on November 13.
