Adam Voges rushed Nottinghamshire to a seven-wicket win over Lancashire on the third morning at Trent Bridge.

The Australian hit 69 not out to get the home side over the finishing line and stretch their lead at the top of the Division One table.

Beginning the day on 33-1 needing just 112 more to win, Notts lost two further wickets, Sajid Mahmood claiming both in one over.

The Lancashire seamer firstly trapped nightwatchman Paul Franks leg before and then five balls later flattened Matt Wood's off-stump.

However, Mark Wagh came out to join Voges, who hit 14 fours in his quickfire 60-ball knock, in an unbeaten fourth-wicket stand of 111.

The former Warwickshire batsman was on 43 not out from 59 balls when the game came to an end before lunch and inside the first 20 overs of the day.

Day two

Lancashire's hopes of victory against table toppers Nottinghamshire took a definite turn for the worse as they were dismissed for 233 in their second innings at Trent Bridge.

After 20 wickets tumbled on the opening day, pitch liaison officer Tony Pigott

confirmed there were no concerns over the state of the Trent Bridge surface.

It certainly looked that way early on, when Paul Horton and night-watchman Gary Keedy put on 70 runs for the first wicket.

But Paul Franks then removed Keedy (29) and Horton (37) - the latter scalp his 400th first-class wicket - before the combination of Charlie Shreck and Chris Read stepped up.

The pair removed Mark Chilton (10), Mal Loye (9) and first-innings hero Stuart Law (11) and, with Read taking Francois du Plessis (36) off Mark Ealham, the visitors found themselves on 166-6.

Steven Croft (25) performed best of the tail, with Saj Mahmood (1) Shreck's last victim as the giant paceman used a mix of feisty bouncers and full-pitched swinging deliveries to claim figures of 5-40.

Thus set a target of 145 runs to win, Nottinghamshire added 29 in their own second innings, Matthew Wood (28 no) doing all the work - including six fours - opening partner Will Jefferson (0) lingering without effect before falling to Mahmood.

Day one

Darren Pattinson captured career-best figures of 6-30 as 20 wickets fell on an amazing opening day at Trent Bridge.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first just two Lancashire batsmen reached double figures in their total of 113.

Captain Stuart Law struck 12 boundaries to make 55, sharing a stand of 85 with Steven Croft (21) before the innings folded in a hurry, Mark Ealham picking up 3-23.

Nottinghamshire did not find batting any easier when they started their reply, although Mark Wagh (55) and Samit Patel, who made 74 from just 71 balls, looked to be in control.

The pair put on 93 for the fourth wicket but once their impressive stand was broken the rest of the line-up collapsed in a heap.

Graeme Swann made a quick-fire 32 before becoming one of four home batsmen to fall to all-rounder Croft, all of his wickets coming by way of lbw decisions.

Fresh from taking three late wickets with the ball, Gary Keedy came out as nightwatchman for Lancashire as they reached the close on 4-0, meaning they will begin day two trailing by 85.
