Durham (22pts) beat Yorkshire (3pts) by 295 runs

Durham's decision not to enforce the follow-on reaped dividends as they completed victory inside three days.

They opted instead to bat the visitors out of the game, setting Yorkshire 418 to win - a total they didn't have a sniff at after Thursday's five-wicket hero Graham Onions ripped out their top order.

He removed Adam Lyth, Anthony McGrath and Jacques Rudolph as the Tykes slumped to 10-3 and only four players managed double figures thereafter - Tim Bresnan and Darren Gough adding 41 for the eighth wicket in a brief riposte.

But the Durham bowlers worked well in tandem with Ben and Steve Harmison complementing Onions' wickets, while Mark Davies ended Gough's resistance.

Earlier, Durham added to their first innings lead of 212 although at 112-6 had to call upon the services of injured opener Michael Di Venuto, who had damaged a finger the day before.

But the Aussie showed few signs of discomfort in adding an unbeaten stand of 93 with the ever-reliable Dale Benkenstein (86no) for the seventh wicket, adding 45 not out to his first inings of 184 to put the game beyond Yorkshire.

Day Two

Graham Onions took five wickets to put Durham in complete control against Yorkshire, although the hosts decided against enforcing the follow on and led by 226 runs as they batted again.

Onions' 5-75 represented his first five-for in a year and it helped Durham bowl out the visitors for just 194 after concluding their own first innings on 406.

Paul Wiseman added 60 after Michael Di Venuto could not add to his overnight score of 184 and Durham were all out for 406 after starting the day on 337-6.

Steve Harmison took two early wickets as he finished with 3-40 to further press his England claims, but he was outdone by Onions' five-wicket haul.

Only youngster Adil Rashid stood up to the barrage for Yorkshire as he made a battling 70 and starred in partnerships of 85 and 55 with Tim Bresnan and Gideon Kruis respectively.

After turning down the chance to make Yorkshire follow-on, Durham batted for four overs at the end of the day reaching 16-0.

Day One

Michael Di Venuto batted throughout the first day to dominate proceedings, although Yorkshire's second-line attack did not let themselves down.

Matthew Hoggard was told he must wait until Thursday before joining the Tykes despite having been left out of the England side, and his presence was missed.

Di Venuto put on 96 for the opening stand with Mark Stoneman, who matched the Aussie early before losing momentum, edging Tim Bresnan to third slip.

The out-of-touch Kyle Coetzer took 36 balls to get off the mark and was not long in edging Bresnan, while Neil McKenzie got a good one from Darren Gough having made just five.

But Dale Benkenstein provided some much-needed support for the opener o his return, adding 98 for a fourth wicket stand dominated by Di Venuto, but pulled Anthony McGrath straight to mide-on in the first over after tea.

Phil Mustard fell soon after swishing at a wide one, after which Di Venuto appeared to drop anchor, losing Ben Harmison after the youngster had plugged away for 21 runs before succumbing to an ill-advised hook off Bresnan.

Paul Wiseman survived a sharp chance to Bresnan at slip late on and made it count with a couple of late boundaries off the unfortunate Deon Kruis.

Ben Sanderson ended the day wicketless and was nominated as the man to stand down once Hoggard arrives on Thursday.
