So Andy Murray's Wimbledon dream has died... for another year at least.
Aiming to become the first Briton since Bunny Austin in 1938 to reach the final at SW19, the Scot fell to a four-set defeat in his semi-final against Andy Roddick on Friday.
As such, his hopes of emulating Fred Perry - the last British winner at Wimbledon in 1936 - have evaporated, much to the disappointment of an expectant nation.
Murray had started his contest with Roddick as the favourite to progress but found the American in inspired form - especially on serve.
It's now back to the drawing board for the 22-year-old world number three who is still looking for a first Grand Slam success.
But what were your thoughts on Murray's defeat? Did the weight of expectation get to the British number one? Did he choke on the big occasion? Or was he simply beaten by the better man on the day?
Give us your take on Murray's exit at Wimbledon. It's Your View.

To John smith where was all these English players and where is all the english talent. A scotsman is the best tennis player britain has seen in a long long time. Murray done well to reach the semi's and has said that he does not like playing on grass to much. Andy Roddick for me was the best player in wimbledon this year and probably should have won the final so to loose to him is not murray playing so badly it was mainly roddick playing so well. It took the best tennis player of all time to beat roddick and only just. English people need to get behind murray and stop being so jealous that its a scotsman not an englishmen carrying the hopes of GB in tennis at the moment.

Andy murray will never win wimbledon and has a very long way to go before he wins a slam, he dosen't attack just sits back and counters.....vs players like roddick, roger, rafa etc he's got no chance. he's a good hardcourt player and nothing more. Oh and why when he's winning Murray is scottish but when he gets knocked out he's british ha makes me laugh!

I think Murray can be proud of what he achieved even if he was understandably disappointed but it's also important to criticise the areas of his game that were weak and cost him the match. Firstly, the most obvious problem was his service game. Watching the Wimbledon final highlights perfectly the importance of having a reliable service game to fall back on. Being difficult to break makes your own service breaks doubly valuable, and Andy M needs to work on his service alot still. It got to the high 60s mostly throughout the tournament but even then his 2nd wasn't great - heavy work on service needed IMO. Secondly, his tactics were wrong in the game - I don't know if that was his fault or his coaches but 9 out of 10 shots he played when Roddick came to the net were cross-court shots; you NEVER play cross-court shots when your opponent is at the net, centrally poised; it's not even a matter of tennis but logic. More 'down-the-line' shots needed to be played by Andy M in the game, and if he had done so I would've expected him to win 5-10 additional points throughout the game: this was a case of bad tactics. Lastly, Roddick was excellent and this Wimbledon he was twice the player compared to what he was even just a year ago. His service game has always been strong but what was amazing this year was his general play: his rallying, his ability to play winners, his timing with net charging and most of all his defensive play at the baseline were FAR beyond his play last year. On a final note, slightly off-topic as it may be, I really think Roddick deserved the title this year. I'm not talking about a sentimental deservance but more that, in my opinion, he actually played better than Federer in the final and only lost because of exhaustion - going on to over 30 games in a single set is absolutely ridiculous and some kind of middle ground needs to be found between a fifth-set tie break and that stunt today.

The fact that Murray had "simple" draws is what got him where he got. He finally faced tough opposition and got beat. You say hes young and everything but federer was winning when he was young. Murray has a lot to learn, you must be blinkered to think it was expectations that got the better of him, it was the fact he wasnt good enough. You cant tell me he earns all that money and cant cope with expectations...

I thought Andy was let down by his first serves , yes he scored a lot of aces but not when they were crucial, he had the second set in his hand and let it go. Still i think with all the pressure he had on being our only hope he did well to reach the semi-finals no mean feat and i wish him all the very best for the rest of the year.

I think Murray didn't have a chance. When you're playing someone who served over 130mph consistently on their first serve, any player on the tour would find it extremely tough (I'm including Federer in that). Roddick's first serve % for the match was in the high 70's. Any pro player would agree that it's absolutely astonishing. Federer's first serve % is high but can't generate the kind of power Roddick can on grass. My hat goes off to Roddick, he was on fire. It's a cliché but when you're in that kind of groove you feel like to can beat anyone. I'm a massive Federer fan and I'm hoping this years final will be as good as the last (VERY high hopes).

big fan of andy murray, but thought the occasion effected him more than he would let on, his 2nd serve was very weak yesterday on some occasions as low as 70 mph, at that level you will be punished, but credit to roddick his all round game was great, groundstrokes, unforced errors, serve and volley, and of course his big serve, but andy murray is only 22 and is no.3 in the world that should still be celebrated and in the not to distant future a grand slam win is a given. also andy's drive and ambition will not let him forget how it felt after that loss to roddick and he will practice/work even harder for his next tournament

Andy Murray did his country proud by reaching the semi's, in the end he lost to a better man. I'm now sure that in a couple of years Andy will be a wimbeldon champion.

I was honest but my opnion was discarded because i wasnt riding on sentiments but reality. The luck or manipulation of the draws got Murray as far as he did , nothing more and when the 1st real test came he fell short knowing well that the Roddick serve was his greatest asset yet he, Murray got broken so many times and also saved so many break on his serve .( check Federer's status) The weight of expectation were massive and unrealistic so when you watch the final on Sunday and see how Federer will dismantle Roddick then you will know Murray has a long long way to go and remember Federer is 27 while Roddick is 26 so many more years and the most disturbing news is that the 2 of them are gettting better and better unlike Nadal whose career is effectively over. Go for precision and and skill not power and sheer strength that count for nothing. Raw power counts for nothing if you dont have the brains to back it up. Murray should watch the final and distance himself from the massive weight of expectation or he will go the way of Tim Henman. So close and near yet so far and nevver acheiving. The hard and naked truth

Andy Murray is a great player and has come of age. He had a great tournement but he came up against a determined Andy Roddick. Roddick had to change his style of play to beat Murrary thats how tricky and difficult Murrary is. Roddick rarely comes into the net to play a point inless he has to. He prefers to hit balls from the baseline. All credit to Roddick for winning and getting to the final. Hope federer and Roddick is a great match. Hard luck to Murrary he'll be back. I honestly think the pressure of people expecting him to win wimbledon got the better of him..

Frankly speaking I think that Andy is rather feebly built to really perform at top gear in the 4 & 5 setters. The good news though is that Andy is still very young and Federer does not have many years to go. Also the Tennis fraternity is yet to see any new big talent. So Andy might just be the 1st Englishman to win a Grand Slam in a couple of years. I just hope that he does not waste himself like Marcos Baghdatis.

Murray didn't return many of A-Roddicks serves that's what let him down! But there is always next year and he is still young!
