British number one Anne Keothavong is through to the second round of the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford after a straight sets win over Sania Mirza.
Keothavong, ranked 82 in the world, had to come through a tough qualifying event to reach the main draw of the competition - and she maintained her fine run by brushing aside last year's runners up 7-6 (7-4) 6-1.
The 24-year-old Brit broke Mirza early in the first set, only for the world number 33 from India to come back into the match to force a tie-break.
Keothavong, though, held her nerve to take the set before racing through the second to set up a second-round tie with sixth-seed Marion Bartoli.
