Real or United?

Where will Cristiano Ronaldo be playing next season? Join the debate

Alex Ferguson Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United

Ferguson and Ronaldo: Is their time working together coming to an end?

Cristiano Ronaldo has dropped his biggest hint yet that his future may lie away from Manchester United - but where do you think he will be playing next season?

Ronaldo is set to indicate where he wishes to play his football next season in two or three days. Is the time right for the Premier League champions to cash in on their prized asset?

Should Sir Alex Ferguson look to get top dollar for his man and use the money to bring in a top class replacement? If so, who would you like to see at Old Trafford or is the Portuguese irreplaceable?

Should Ronaldo move, would he be a success in Spain? Would his acquisition by the Spanish champions make Madrid favourites for next season's UEFA Champions League?

I have to say i find it highly amusing that Real have acted with such arrogance all summer (even more than the lad himself!) about how it was all a done deal and just a question of time - And in the end they end up with no Ronaldo and, even better, one of thier own players (Robinho) demanding to leave stating that he cant be the best player in the world at Madrid! - talk about egg on yor face and being made to look a second rate club! Hopefully Ronaldo will see how his actions and those of Madrid (the self proclaimed 'biggest' club in the world) were nonsense and see sense that he wont play for a better team anywhere.

Alex Brenton (Manchester United fan) says...

I think this is typical as Ronaldo has always had a slight arrogance about him and once again we get a footballer thinking he can do what he likes and he probably will!! Ferguson told him that he would make him the greatest player in the world and that is what he has done and this is how Ronaldo repays him by going to Real Madrid. Once upon a time Real where the best time in the World but they are no were near that now, there is a total lack of respect on Ronaldo's part he owes everything to Manchester United and Sir Alex

Unfortunately these days Football is all about the money. It's a sport run by businessmen. Man Yoo are no different now that the Glazers are at the helm. I'd like to think that Ronaldo would change his mind naturally and opt to stick with the club that have guided his career. However when he's worth so much I feel that he'll be let go and 3 or 4 other up and coming talents will be given a chance in the red shirt as Ronnie was originally. However it would serve him right if he was made to stay and sit in the stands next season or play reserve team football until his attitude changed!!!

I don't think Ronaldo will be allowed to move if sir Alex doesn't want him to, but if the player wishes to and the fee is good for the club then why not!!? He has been excellent for united but will he be able to equal or beat last seasons form? If not maybe it's time to cash in on him.

Whats the big deal. He and rooney are over rated. Ronaldo is a cheat and his disloyalty to Man u is amazing. I think he should go because Man u will miss out and if he when they will win nowt next season. when a chance like 40- 100 million come in for a player you cant refuse. PS get rid of Ginger, ogre face rooney soon, get in adebayor, berbatov.

Let him go, sure well struggle to find a replacment but he seems to want to leave. we cant force him to stay so i say get the money and buy Huntelaar or Benzima then we will have a new top scorer.

Daniel Moore (Aston Villa fan) says...

Let him go, There is no such thing as a one man team and Nani could easily fill his spot as they are near enough the same player, cheerio ronaldo.

Chris Porter (Aston Villa fan) says...

Whoever said "We should demand casillas, robben and 40 mill" must be mentally ill or just blind. People say Cech is the best in the world but he makes mistakes, Casillas doesnt. He is the best goalkeeper in the world. He was Madrid's best player in the 07/08 season and he's the captain. Real Madrid would never sell him - he's happy at Madrid and wants to stay there for the rest of his career. Robben isnt going to leave Madrid for United, anyday. No matter what. Plus 40mill, not a chance. Casillas is worth about 30 mill, Robben is about 20 mill so you think that Real Madrid should give up two of their best players and 40 mill just for a pety little greedy footballer called Cristiano? Ronaldo isnt worth 100 million. You could buy Gerrard, Messi, Torres and Ronaldinho maybe for 100 million. And all these people who say "cash in and sign Messi, David Villa, Ronaldinho, Kaka" whatever, dont know what they're talking about. A team cant just snap up who they want, they have to discuss with the team's. Kaka wants to stay at AC, Messi wants to stay at Barca and Villa wants to stay at Valencia or move to Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool. They need to use their 70 mill or whatever to sign good players at a bargain price, who might want a move. Like Micah Richards, Bentley, Roque Santa Cruz, Huntelaar, whoever. Young, talented players with YEARS ahead of them. Signing Robben or Ronaldinho will give you about 2-3 years of satisfactory performances then will get old and move back to spain or where-ever. Arsenal, United and Chelsea all seem unsettled at the moment with transfers and their team but Liverpool have a good morale, they will get Barry :( Downing and maybe but doubt it David Villa. They stand a good chance of starting the campaign as strong runners and maybe leaders. United will be strong but without Tevez or Ronaldo then they will NOT win the 08/09 season. Everton for top 4???? Good luck with that Moyes!! VILLA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ronaldo no doubt is a great player but his attitude is not good.He has exhibited this by his disloyalty to the team and coach that brought him into limelight, this is unfortunate and i bet you he will not hit it big in Madrid. He is not indispensable because manchester united has a lot of good players who can play better than him when given the opportunity.Thanks.

Ashley Jones (Manchester United fan) says...

I think ronaldo will go and regret it,look at beckham what did he get out of it not much and he`s even given ronaldo advice and told him stay, i dont want him to go cause he`ll be a big miss to the prem no doubt about he`s a joy to watch and i think even rooney will miss him cause those 2 on the counter attack woo they were fast. and yes no doubt last season he was just simply un- stoppable scoring 41 goals and helping man utd do the double

Ben Edwards says...

Ronaldo is contracted to Manchester United. Real Madrid cannot bully us into selling him. We are the champions of England and champions of Europe, Alex Ferguson will not have another team bully him at all. Ronaldo will 100% be at Old Trafford next season.

Daniel Taylor (Manchester United fan) says...

I think United should let ronaldo go, if he doesnt want to play for united any longer let him ruin his game in Spain. 70 to 100 million could get us alot of talent, prospects and world class players. They said when van nistlerooy left that united would stop scoring goals and we didnt. United will prove once again they are more than just 1 player. I think we should buy villa, and also tie up the fll transfer of carlos tevez as he is one of uniteds best assets.

Cai Jenkins (Manchester United fan) says...

The fact is with or without Ronaldo, Manchester Utd will win tophies. Bigger players have come and gone, but that fact will still stay the same. There is no one player bigger than any club. If he is looking to win CL trophies then i think he is making a mistake because English clubs will dominate European competitions for the forseeable future... If hes happy in a a two horse race championship , then good luck to him and i hope he enjoys the sun as Madrid is a lovely place...

Taylor Hayes (Sheffield United fan) says...

If I was Ferguson I would hold out for the best possible price and send him packing. As a footballer Ronaldo is undoubtedly very talented, he can produce the spectacular and his goals record reflects this. But all too often he doesn't turn up for the biggest games. The two matches against Barcelona and then Chelsea, in the Champions League, showed this. It is rare that he is the match winner in the Big 4 Showdowns in the Premier League also. And for Portugal against Germany, did anyone notice him? To me, he isn't the best player in the world and will never be up there with the likes of Messi or Kaka, who on big occasions show what they're made of. No player is bigger than Manchester United, they're loyal 70,000 fans that backed him every week (despite his World Cup antics) and the manager, who picked him up as a nobody and stuck with him through until now. Let him go. Many players would give an arm and a leg to play for the European Champions (Arshavin, Benzema & Modric are all good examples).

Tony Hinks says...

Hold him to his contract, sit his backside on the bench if we have to, These Prima Donna Footballers need to be shown that they can't dictate, The kid was a nothing when we bought him, now he is the best player in the world. Ronaldo wants to have a word with Giggs, Scholes & Neville about loyalty.

Matt Slinger says...

Like Most other man united fans, i believe ronaldo was irreplaceable last season, he was so instrumental in winning the champs league and premier league title, but with this whole situation he has caused for both the club and himself, i do not want him at man united next we deserve someone with much more respect for the club, man united is not built on one player

William Lewis (Manchester United fan) says...

If Ronaldo wanted to stay he would of said so, sure he is a first class player but if he wants to join the "galacticos" just let him. When he does go, we'll have enough money to bring in other brilliant players like Aguero(athletico madrid), Diego(werder bremen) or Ramos(real madrid). Who wouldn't want to be part of the team that won the Prem title and the Champions league? What Madrid do is they buy all the best players in the world, play them for a season and then let them rot. Anyways, Anderson and Nani will probably be better than him if they stay Utd.

Martin Kane says...

If Real Madrid want him so bad, Manchester United have the upper hand. They have a product that Real so desperatley desire. If its so strong and I was in charge of the situation at Man United id test that desire by putting a ridiculously massive price tag on his head. I'd be asking for £100M+ for Ronaldo. Not because I think he's worth it. Simply because Real might be prepared to pay it. Its not asif they are in a particular need or rush to get rid of him. If they dont get the £100M for him, they've got one of the worlds top and most sought after players on their books. Its a win win situation really.

Ben Keiron says...

it is funny reading the thoughts of all these united fans who but a few weeks ago were claiming he was the best player in the world who would become an old trafford great. its not a personal insult that he wants to leave, just a fact that you'l never be as big as madrid. get over it.

Nick Smallshaw says...

Don't get me wrong, I am truly grateful to him for his contribution in last seasons success as are many others. However, His outright disrespect for the club and its supporters by signing a 5 year contract on a very good wage and within 12 Months saying he will decide on his future? United will decide the future of Ronaldo and he should have quashed reports - no matter what he felt and done this in a professional manner as any other player has in the past and said i am a united player until a bid is accepted. If he is not loyal then he can be replaced - his has not yet began to shine in the 'Big Games' and if he was as good as we all say, he, like Platini, Maradona and other past greats would have dragged Portugal to the final - As Ballack has done for Germay so far and did in the league for Chelsea last term. If i was Fergie i would say £60 Mil + Robinho and Sergio Ramos to Real or £40 Mil to any other team and reiterate that we decide his future not real and certainly not Ronaldo! But one thing i can be certain of, he won't be catered for tactically like he is at united and will become just another Madrid player or he can stay and become a legend!
