Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins believes his team took an important home point from their goalless draw with Leicester.

His team could not break down the defensive Foxes, despite the visitors playing the last 29 minutes with only 10 men after midfielder Iain Hume was sent off for a second bookable offence.

The lack of a goal meant the Iron were booed off the field by a section of their own supporters, although they had enjoyed most of the possession in the game.

Adkins said: "Maybe it's a sign of how far we have come when everybody is very, very disappointed that we haven't beaten a Leicester City side with the millions of Milan Mandaric.

"I think we forced the issue all the way through the game to try and win it. We have kept good possession of the football and I think it shows just how far the football club has come.

"We tried to go a little bit more direct but we are not very good at going direct. We didn't put the ball into the penalty area as well as we could.

"If we scored they would have had to come out a little bit. It's very difficult to break down a team when they set their stall out the way they have and defended the way they have."

But Adkins was pleased to get something out of the game, adding: "Its an important point. I think when we watch the video we will see we had the lion's share of the possession and tried to create.

"We can't go out and spend millions like Leicester City so we have got a group of guys who are trying to do the best they can, and I think we were the better team."

Decisions

But Foxes coach Gerry Taggart believed two key decisions turned the game against Leicester - Hulme's sending off in the 61st minute, as well as Patrick Kisnorbo having a goal disallowed for offside.

Hulme's dismissal came after he received a second yellow card for going in with a high foot on Iron defender Cliff Byrne, but Taggart said: "It's not a sending off and that is the most polite way I can put it.

"Iain has jumped early for the ball and accidentally caught the guy who I think has made a meal of it.

"I don't think it is a yellow card. I think he won the ball fairly by jumping early."

Taggart also thought Kisnorbo scored a perfectly good goal, adding: "We have all seen the replay of Patrick's goal in the dressing room and he is clearly not offside."
