Mowbray: Helpless

West Bromich Albion were thrashed 4-1 by German side Cologne, bringing their pre-season tour of Holland and Germany to an end.

It was Tony Mowbray side's second successive defeat and it looked ominous from the beginning of the match, Nemanja Vucicevic collecting a loose ball, cutting inside and firing past on-loan goalkeeper, Michael Danek, from 20 yards.

The Bundesliga new boys then doubled their lead through Milivoje Novakovic, with the Slovenian rising above the West Brom defenders to head home Fabrice Ehret's cross.

A Roman Bednar own goal and Ehret's strike from 15 yards, which came after a wayward pass from Leon Barnett, saw Cologne build an unassailable lead after a barrage of first-half goals.

Fans of the Premier League side did have something to celebrate as Craig Beattie shrugged off Andre's challenge before slotting the ball under substitute goalkeeper Thomas Kessler, though the goal was scant consolation.
