Bolton have completed the capture of Aston Villa defender Gary Cahill for an undisclosed fee.

The Trotters beat Birmingham to the signature of the 22-year-old, who has penned a three-and-a-half year deal at The Reebok.

Manager Gary Megson is delighted Cahill, whom he believes has a big future ahead of him in the game, chose The Trotters.

"He is a player I have admired for a long time," he told the club's official website. "It is fantastic news that he has agreed to join Bolton.

"Gary is very talented and at 22 years of age has a very, very bright future ahead of him."

Impressed

Despite interest from numerous clubs, Cahill was delighted to commit to Bolton after being sold on the club.

Cahill said: "It is the right move for me to come to Bolton.

"I had a look around their set-up and met with the manager and chairman, and I was impressed with what I saw and heard."

Megson hinted the club could well make one or two more additions before the transfer window closes.

"We've still got a couple of irons in the fire - and I'm optimistic that we'll be able to conclude those deals," he concluded.
