Rocket: will be back next week

If the start of the Premier League season and Soccer AM this weekend wasn't exciting enough already, I've been given the opportunity to join the Royal Air Force in Mombassa on a charity mission.

Quotes of the week

After a relaxing summer it's been a whirlwind few weeks and on Monday I stepped on a plane and headed to Kenya.

If the start of the Premier League season and Soccer AM this weekend wasn't exciting enough already, I've been given the opportunity to join the Royal Air Force in Mombassa on a charity mission.

Members of the RAF including their football coach John McGlasson have been out here for a couple of week's already and their main aim is to improve local coaching and hopefully identify some stars of the future.

Last year we ran KitAid on Soccer AM and me and the rest of the team were completely overwhelmed by the response because we literally had thousands of shirts coming in. At one point we were considering asking people to send them to another address because we simply couldn't house them!

We had team shirts from all over the country and not just shirts, whole kits as well including socks, which was amazing and it was through this that we were contacted by the Glad's House charity who are the guys that set everything up with the RAF and Soccer AM.

We've had a lot more shirts come in over the summer as well and I've brought them over with me.

There's going to be coaching for a lot of young kids as well and we're expecting them to come from all over.

I'm sure it will all be a real eye opening experience and I'm a little anxious about coming up with the goods while I'm out here, but I'm excited at the same time.

I had all my jabs before I came out too including yellow fever, which isn't particularly pleasant and I've started my course of Malaria tablets a few days before I left so I don't do a Kolo Toure while I'm out here!

I've got a good eight days in Kenya and most of it, if not all will be taken up with work, but if we get a bit of time me and my cameraman Duncan might go and attempt to see some wildlife and go on Safri for a day which would be amazing.

Hopefully I'll be able to keep you updated with my progress and with a bit of luck I'll put some pictures up as well so check back on the site during this week for more updates...

Rocket.
