McAlister: leg injury

Luke McAlister and Jason White will both have late fitness tests to determine their participation in Sale Sharks' Guinnness Premiership fixture against Newcastle on Sunday.

Kiwi centre McAlister and club skipper White are battling to overcome respective leg and groin injuries.

Neither player has been named in the match-day 22 but that is subject to change, says Sale boss Philippe Saint-Andre.

Should White be ruled out, Igancio Fernandez Lobbe will captain the side.

England trio ruled out

England trio Toby Flood, Jamie Noon and Jonny Wilkinson miss Newcastle's trip to Edgeley Park.

Flood and Noon are both nursing ankle knocks, while Wilkinson is ruled out due to concussion.

Andy Dehaty and Tom Dillon form a new-look pairing in the centres and Wilkinson's absence provides England Under 20 fly-half Rob Miller with an opportunity.

In the forwards, Ross Beattie makes his first start for the club since re-joining.
