The 35-year-old from Alabama has had a consistent season on the PGA Tour with a win - his first since 2004 - seven top 10s and just three missed cuts from 19 events. He was third at Augusta and runner-up in the Accenture World Match Play. That is the good news. The bad news is that his Ryder Cup record is woeful, with just a 0.21 winning percentage since his debut in 2002. Cink has played on all three of America's losing teams over the last six years and has never tasted victory, so it is tempting to equate his presence with United States' failure. Remarkably, Cink has played in two Presidents Cups and has a 100 per cent winning record. The world number six is a matchplay specialist in everything apart from the event where it matters most. An enigma, and it is hard to make the case for him offering many solutions for Paul Azinger later this month.
