Kenny Perry has made no secret of his burning ambition to play in a Ryder Cup in his home state of Kentucky and three PGA Tour victories this year have assured him of his wish. After his third win in five weeks at the start of July the 48-year-old veteran was the world's most in-form player. Victory at the John Deere Classic secured his Ryder Cup spot but his decision to miss the Open Championship in favour of the second-rate US Bank Championship was greeted with widespread opprobrium. He finished in a tie for sixth (meaning five other journeymen beat him) and his form has collapsed ever since. Poetic justice? Perry has even told Paul Azinger that he feels his form peaked too early in the season. Thanks, Ken. Valhalla holds bittersweet memories for Perry after he lost in a play-off there at the 1996 USPGA. Famously, he chose to spend time in the TV tower after finishing his round rather than warm up for a possible play-off and his decision backfired as he was caught cold and lost to Mark Brooks at the first extra hole
