Former Open champion John Daly has re-opened his feud with coach Butch Harmon on the eve of this year's championship.
The 42-year-old, who won the Claret Jug at St Andrews in 1995, has been struggling for form over the past 18 months and worked with the legendary Harmon earlier in the year.
But their association was brought to an abrupt halt following an incident at the PODS Championship in March, when Daly was accused of drinking in a hospitality tent during a rain delay, with Harmon claiming: "The most important thing in his life is getting drunk."
Daly rejected the suggestion, saying Harmon had apologised privately, but the coach denied ever saying sorry and the pair remain on poor terms.
"I haven't really done much. I think most of that stuff started with Butch Harmon. His lies destroyed my life for a little bit," he said.
"The stories were I was drinking in the tent. It is a joke. I would never do that in a round.
"Butch said I was a drunk. He just made up stuff without getting his facts straight.
"He really needs to stay as far away as possible from me."
Daly is on a run of six missed cuts on the PGA Tour but insists his problems are injury related.
"It's just been very tough to play at all this year because of the injuries and the same last year," the two-time major winner said. "My doctor told me I shouldn't play.
"I've got tendonitis in my left elbow and I had a cyst on my right hand that was a calcium buildup that we thought was arthritis, and they got that out. So it's just been one thing after another.
"It's pretty much the first time I haven't listened to my doctor in two years."
