Michael Campbell took the Tiger Woods approach to pre-Open practice with a 6.45am start at Royal Birkdale on Monday.
The New Zealander, who won the US Open in 2005, was searching for inspiration having missed the cut in nine of his last 10 events.
"I can see why he does it," said Campbell after strolling off the final green just before 11.00am.
"There was nobody around the first tee at all and even now it's quiet and peaceful."
Despite his recent struggles, Campbell remains optimistic about an upturn in form at the Open, an event he has contended at in the past.

His nearest brush with the Claret Jug came back in 1995, also at the Home of Golf, when he led by two with a round to go and eventually missed out on the play-off between John Daly and Costantino Rocca by a single stroke.
"It's like water off a duck's back to me," he added of his recent form.
"Ever since I was a schoolboy I've gone through big ups and downs.
"I know other players in my position would be panicking and might even give up, but with me it can turn right round in one week. That's how it's always been."
