Full-time: Liverpool 1 Man City 0. Torres' striker proves to be the difference. City looked like a side who were already planning their summer holidays and Dr Shinawatra is unlikely to have been impressed.
90 + 2 - Late chance: Hyypia is forced into a last-ditch block to deny Castillo. The Mexican had been awarded plenty of time and space and Liverpool were almost made to pay.
89 - No vision: Castillo tries to do too much himself and is eventually crowded out by Carragher. He had options around him, but in all fairness he can hardly be blamed for not trusting his team-mates.
86 - Fortunate: Voronin slips in a cross from the right towards Torres. Ball slides in to intercept and is lucky that his touch falls harmlessly into the arms fo Hart. How Liverpool still onhly have one is a mystery!
84 - Comfortable: Mascherano carries the ball from half-way to the edge of the box before unleashing alow drive. Hart beats it away easily though.
83 - On the edge: City almost snatch an equaliser. Benjani pulls a cross back from the dead-ball line and Alonso almost puts through his own goal. Benjani is adjudged to have carried the ball out initially but Liverpool need to be wary of thrwoing away two points.
Sub: Garrido comes on for Vassell.
81 - Good strike: Benjani powers a free-kick goalwards, but there is no placement on his effort and it flies straight at Reina. The keeper decides to punch rather than catch but just about manages to get away with it.
80 - Awful: Every time City look to get forward they either give possession away cheaply or fall over their own feet! They don't deserve to get anything today.
Sub: Gerrard makes way for Voronin.
77 - No goal: Kuyt places a cheeky effort through the legs of Hart, but the linesman has raised his flag and it won't stand. Liverpool continue to knock on the door, while City continue to flounder.
Struggle: Majeed believes today's game has backed up his criticism of Sven and is worried that City could struggle next season.
75 - Just off: Carragher sprays a rakign pass over the top for Gerrard, but the midfielder maestro has gone to soon and play is pulled back. The Liverpool skipper berates the linesman for the decision, but it was correct.
Sub: Alonso comes on in place of Lucas. Will this be the Spaniard's final appearance at Anfield?
End of Sven: Rob is predicting an Eriksson exit over the summer following another lacklustre display, while Declan sees Liverpool going on to get another couple this afternoon.
72 - Waste: City get an opportunity to swing a free-kick into the Liverpool box, but Hamann gets too much on his delivery and it goes straight out for a goal-kick.
Only one winner: City have been really disappointing so far and it would appear to be only a matter of time before Liverpool grab a second. The City fans may have got behind Eriksson, but his players have done him no favours.
70 - Close: Benayoun tries to send Kuyt in behind but Ball just about manages to cut out the pass. It was vital he did as he had left Kuyt in acres of space out on the wing.
Sub: Babel is replaced by Benayoun for Liverpool. The Dutchman's last involvement should have been to grab a second for his side, and he knows he has missed a golden opportunity.
Sub: Elano and Petrov have made way for Castillo and Hamann. The former Liverpool man gets a good reception from the Anfield faithful.
67 - No excuse: Liverpool should be out of sight. Ryan Babel is the culprit this time as he blazes over from two-yards following ddo work down the right by Torres.
66 - Third chance: Another opportunity for Kuyt who sends a free-header straight at Hart when either side of the keeper and he couldn't fail to score.
65 - Off the bar: Hyypia lofts in a fine cross from the right and Kuyt's diving header cracks off the crossbar and bounces clear.
64 - Unforced errors: The visitors are squandering possession far too easily and keep giving the ball back to Liverpool.
62 - No closing down: City are just inviting Liverpool to shoot at every given opportunity, and this time Lucas sends a volley bouncing towards Hart. The keeper sees it all the way though and gets his body right behind it.
61 - Nearly two: Kuyt meets the delivery at the back post with a flying volley, but hist it straight at Hart. The Dutchman couldn't have caught it any cleaner, and only the angle prevented him from doubling Liverpool's lead.
60 - Worth a hit: Lucas tries his luck from 30-yards and sees it deflected behind for a corner.
Coem to life: Will the goal finally see City look to push forward? They have done very little so far in the final third.
58 - GOAL: Liverpool 1 Man City 0. That man Torres makes the breakthrough. He gets to run at Dunne one-on-one and glides past him with ease. With the angle getting tighter all the time he then slots a low effort across Hart and into the bottom corner.
56 - Skills: Mascherano twists and tunrs past Ball and Petrov down the in the corner, but when faced with a sight of goal slashes an effort towards the corner flag. He had done brilliantly to work the opening, but than had a rush of blood. He is hardly noted for his fancy footwork, but looked more like his countryman Lionel Messi just then!
53 - Options: Babel makes good progress again down the left but pulls the ball back behind Gerrard and Torres. Johnson is flying back fro City though and concedes a corner. The delivery drops over the head of Hart but Kuyt has decided not to gamble at the back post and it drifts harmlessly behind. The City keeper is fortunate as he came into traffic and got nowhere near the ball.
52 - Dangerous: Liverpool get into all sorts of problems at the back and Reina is almost caught in possession by Benjani. The Reds are living dangerously, while City are enjoying their best spell.
51 - Off the woodwork: Elano bends a brilliant 25-yard free-kick over the wall and sees it cannon behind off the outside of the post. So close for City.
50 - Too much: Babel makes it too obvious that he is trying to drift in-field onto his right foot and Ireland gets in a solid block tackle. Babel did have Gerrard to his left and would have been better to play in his captain.
47 - In again: Fantatstic pass by Gerrard with the outside of his boot which sends Torres in on goal. It is on his left side though and he stabs a right-foot effort narrowly wide of the post. He didn't really catch it and Hart never looked troubled. Liverpool have certainly upped the tempo though and the crowd have finally found their voices.
46 - So close: Bright start by the home side. Gerrard makes inroads down the left and floats a cross towards Kuyt. He does well to knock it down to Torres, but the Spaniard can't bring the ball down and the chance goes begging.
Second-half: Liverpool get us up and running again.
Reds to take control: Jay in Denver feels that Torres will prove to the main man for the Reds once again with an opening goal, before someone will step off the bench and grab a second. Let's see. I certainly hope that we get a goal from somewhere!

Half-time: Liverpool 0 Man City 0. Steven Gerrard came closest to breaking the deadlock, but we are all square at the break. Hopefully a half-time cup of tea will bring the players to life!
One minute of stoppage time to be played.
44 - Battle: Insua does well to put pressure on Vassell and force him back towards his own goal. The former England man then trips over the ball, but is bailed out of trouble by Sun Jihai. Just about sums up today's first half. Plenty of good intentions, but ultimately no quality.
42 - Quiet: The atmosphere is so flat, very un-Anfield like. Admittedly they have been given little to shout about, but with it being the last home game of the season I was expecting a party here today!
City view: Rikeesh is predicting Benjani to grab a winner for City here today, while Majeed has made it clear that not all City fans are behind their manager. A poor run of form, following a bright start, may have caused some to question the boss but he has still taken the club forward and needs more time to complete the job.
38 - Lucky boy: Johnson whips over a low cross from the edge of the Liverpool box and Hyypia appears to knock it behind with his arm. It has actually struck his chest, but he leant into it and on the blind side of the referee he is fortunate to get away with it.
37 - Needed a touch: Babel does brilliantly to drift past Corluka and sees his cross brush over the heads of both Torres and kuyt. An inch lower and Liverpool could have been in business.
34 - Impossible: Johnson has options to both sides but tries to play a Hollywood pass towards Petrov and only succeeds in shanking it through to Reina. Vassell had found plenty of space on the right and would have been an easier ball.
32 - Great save: Gerrard looks to curl an effort into the far corner and looks on in disbelief as Hart gets fingertips to it and knocks it behind for a corner. Gerrard was already peeling away in celebration until the young keeper's fine intervention.
31 - Tight call: A well-worked move by City results in Johnson trying to play in Petrov down the left. Teh Bulgarian looked to be level and would have been in, but the linesman's flag saves Liverpool.
30 - Must do better: Finnan lifts a cross towards Babel, and despite being unmarked the winger leaps far too early to win a header and is unable to divert it into the path of Torres.
28 - Inches wide: Gerrard unleashes a 25-yard thunderbolt which skids narrowly past the post. Hart looked to have it covered, but the Liverpool skipper has got his eye in.
26 - Great delivery: Petrov fizzes over a free-kick into the corrider of uncertainty six-yards from goal. Reina stays rooted to his line and Dunne is unfortunate to get penalised for climbing on Carragher when he appeared to have won the ball cleanly.
25 - Rare break: With that said, City launch an attack with Benjani doing to well to force Carragher into a hurried clearance. City now have a base to work from. Can they snatch an opener against the run of play?
24 - No change: Liverpool continue to play pretty football in the middle of the park wihtout really hurting City. The visitors have been disappointing, and are yet to get going.
Three and easy: Lee is holding out for 3-1 Liverpool win, and feels that Crouch will stay at Liverpool as a move would be a step down for him. I think he appreciates that, but there is onyl so long he will put up with being constantly overlooked.
Sven support: Thanks to Lee in Australia for getting in touch. I can confirm that the City fans are getting right behind Sven and have made their feelings on the whole situation very clear. Whether that proves to be enough know, only time will tell.
20 - Good chance: Kuyt swings over a cross from the right which finds Babel in acres of space six-yards out. He connects well with his header, but gets too much on it and sends it sailing over the bar. It needed a deft flick, whereas Babel hammered it goalwards. First real clear cut opportunity that has been created by either side.
Spending: Karl feels that Liverpool will continue to underperform in the Premier League until they start spending big money on top players. Torres has proven that to get world class talent you have to pay the price, and the Reds must be aware that they are short in a number of key areas.
17 - No way through: Torres takes up a menacing position in the six-yard box, but Kuyt's cross won't sit down for him and Sun Jihai is able to hook the ball away to safety. Liverpool are looking more threatening at present and City are embedded inside their own half.
16 - Poor touch: Babel looks to cut across the edge of the box from the left flank, but his first touch is too heavy and it runs away from him. Disappointing, as the Dutchman had found space well and had would have had a clear shot on goal had he gathered the ball in.
Reds to prevail: Andrew is backing Liverpool tp grind out a 1-0 win and push Sven closer to the exit door. He also believes that Crouch and Riise could be on their way to Newcastle over the close season. The Magpies have certainly expressed an interest, but I'm sure there would be plenty of takers for the duo.
12 - No chance: Corluka looks to send Vassell scurrying away down the right. However, his pass is overhit and gives the winger/striker no chance. Even if he had reached it he had no support, as even Benjani was still languishing on the half-way line.
11 - Polite: The lack of noise being generated proves how little today's encounter means. Both sides will obviously been looking for three points, but it would appear that not many risks are going to be taken.
Where's Crouch?: Mat is disappointed that the England man hasn't even made the bench. It seems a strange choice given all the talk during the week which had suggested that he was in-line ot start today. It may be about time for the big man to cut his losses and look elsewhere for first-team football.
7 - Corner: Torres is bundled over by Dunne. No free-kick is given and the Reds are forced to settle for a corner. Gerrard's delivery is cut out by Dunne, with Hyypia lurking behind him. City pulled nine men behind the ball which would appear to indicate how keen they are to keep a clean sheet.
New kit: Liverpool are modelling their new strip here today, and in all honesty it doesn't look much different to the old one. Will it be the kit in which they finally achieve Premier League glory next season?
5 - Cut out: Lucas attempts to slip a clever pass down the line to Kuyt, but Petrov has tracked back well and intercepts with ease.
4 - Control: Liverpool have dominated the early possession, but as yet they have shown little desire to push forward. City seem content to sit back and hit the Reds on the counter attack.
3 - Early touch: Insua gets invloved early on and does well to prevent Elano bursting down the right. That will help to settle his nerves, as he could be in a busy afternoon against the Brazilian.
More City belief: Ross in the Congo feels that the visitors will nick a 1-0 win here today. City don't have the best record against Liverpool of late, but anything can happen.
Formation: Ball has actually started the game at left-back, with Jihai switching to the right and Corluka joining Dunne in the middle. Makes sense.
Kick-off: City get us underway.
Here we go: The teams are out. Let's hope that we get an entertaining game. Neither side has anything to play for and there is a danger that it could descend into a meaningless procession. Both sides have plenty of attacking flair on show though and there would appear to be goals on the cards.
Early confidence: Carl believes that City will get a positive result this afternoon as they rally behind their manager.

Team news: Fernando Torres has recovered in time to take his place in the side, while Emililano Insua is given a rare start at the back. Elano is restored to his preferred position in midfield for City, and Michael Ball continues to deputise in the centre of their defence.
Man City team: Hart, Corluka, Dunne, Ball, Jihai, Vassell, Ireland, Johnson, Petrov, Elano, Mwaruwari. Subs: Isaksson, Gelson, Castillo, Hamann, Garrido.
Liverpool team: Reina, Finnan, Hyypia, Carragher, Insua, Mascherano, Lucas, Kuyt, Gerrard, Babel, Torres. Subs: Itandje, Voronin, Benayoun, Alonso, Skrtel.
Liverpool will be keen to get back to winning ways following their European disappointment on Wednesday night. Fourth place in the table has already been wrapped up but the Reds will be keen to end the season in style. City meanwhile will want to claim maximum points to help ease the pressure on manager Sven Goran Eriksson. The Swede looks set to be shown the door at Eastlands over the summer, but will not want to go without a fight.
