Shakhtar Donetsk's defensive midfielder Mariusz Lewandowski was a key member of Poland's qualifying campaign for Euro 2008.
Lewandowski played in all but two of Poland's route to Austria and Switzerland and helped keep the team together with his defensive duties.
The 28-year-old's excellent stamina, strength and aerial ability come to good use make him an ideal candidate to break up opponents' attacks.
Lewandowski featured twice in Poland's disappointing 2006 World Cup finals in Germany and is closing in on half a century of caps for his country.
He began his career with Zaglebie Lubin before playing for Dyskobolia Grodzisk. He has spent the past seven seasons in Ukraine.
